Professor Larry Hickman, the Director of the Center for Dewey Studies, was named SIUC's Outstanding Scholar in 2002. Professor Anthony Steinbock was named the College of Liberal Arts Outstanding Scholar in 2008. In addition, Professors Thomas Alexander, Robert Hahn, Anthony Steinbock, and Pat Manfredi have all received outstanding teaching awards.

Stony Brook University, State University of New York
The Doctoral Program in Philosophy at Stony Brook prepares students to do original and innovative research on the frontiers of contemporary philosophy and to teach at all levels of higher education. Extensive offerings in contemporary European philosophy are a special focus of the program, together with central topics in Anglo-American philosophy, a major historical component, and far-reaching interdisciplinary philosophical opportunities. The MA with a focus in philosophy and the arts explores philosophical aspects of the arts per se and the art world at large.
