Our goal is to train media experts. The MS degree prepares students for careers in production (games, other interactive media) or management. MA and PhD degrees prepare students for careers in media research as media consultants or academics. The PhD program is ranked among the top 12 in the country. Students in the MFA program work closely with distinguished faculty members to focus on the creation of high-quality creative works in photography, film, video, sound, new media, and intermedia. Courses in criticism, theory, and history help students to place their work within the context of contemporary arts practice. The College-wide PhD program engages students in the analysis of the fundamentals of media and communication, whether social, economic, political, cultural, historical, legal/regulatory, or international. Its firm grounding in conceptual and methodological debates is designed to educate researchers and instructors who will make significant contributions to the field of media analysis, policies, and practices. The College is home to the Global Media Research Center and Big Muddy Independent Film Festival.
