CELL, MOLECULAR, AND STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY
Cross-Discipline Announcements
Loyola University Chicago A modest-sized, dynamic faculty offers exciting opportunities for research leading to the MS and PhD in areas that include molecular oncology and molecular neurochemical mechanisms of brain development and alcohol addiction; biochemistry of apoptosis, transcription factors, intracellular protein degradation, cell membranes, neurotransmitters, signal transduction, and cell-cell interactions; and biosynthesis and action of hormones. All students accepted into the PhD program receive very competitive stipend support and tuition remission. A focused program of formal study allows PhD students to initiate research during their first year. The two-year MS program includes a year of intensive research.
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology areas of specialization include bioinformatics; protein engineering; drug and vaccine design; molecular modeling, nucleic acid, peptide, natural product, and biomedical polymer synthesis; theoretical and NMR investigations of protein folding; biomimetics; X-ray crystallographic characterization of human/viral proteins and nucleic acids; and physical and theoretical investigations of protein–nucleic acid and protein-protein interactions.
Molecular Biology
Southern Illinois University Carbondale The Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry Graduate Program is a multi-department, multi-campus graduate program offering the MS and PhD degrees. Housed in modern facilities in the School of Medicine and the College of Science, the Department of Microbiology (Carbondale), the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Carbondale), and the Department of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology (Springfield) together have more than 30 research-active faculty members from various molecular disciplines. The departments jointly offer strong, integrated interdisciplinary course work and research training in the cell and molecular biology of prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Research opportunities are available in basic science and applied areas.
Stony Brook University, State University of New York The Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate Program at Stony Brook University offers students the freedom to select an academic course of study in a wide range of areas within molecular and cellular biology. Students can perform their PhD thesis research with one of nearly 100 outstanding research faculty members.
