Location: Clinton Junior College is located in the heart of the growing industrial Piedmont area, within the city limits of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Rock Hill has a population of approximately 46,000. Twenty-five miles to the south is Charlotte, North Carolina, a progressively developing city. Columbia, South Carolina, is 72 miles north. Several major highways lend easy access to both Charlotte and Columbia.

HISTORY

Clinton Junior College is a two-year, private, coed, liberal arts college, affiliated with the American Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. It was founded in 1894 by the AME Zion Church to eradicate illiteracy among the freedmen of South Carolina. In 1909, the College was incorporated as Clinton Normal and Industrial College. An amended charter changed the name to Clinton Junior College in 1956.

Clinton Junior designs and implements an education program that helps students lead moral, spiritual, and productive lives. Clinton is committed to both a liberal arts education and vocational training.

Situated on 20 acres, the seven-building campus ../includes a newly built library.

ACCREDITATION

Clinton Junior College is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education to award the Associate of Liberal Arts and Associate of Small Business degrees and the Certificate of Christian Ministry.

Entrance Requirements: Graduation from an accredited high school (or equivalent) with a minimum of 21 units to include 4 English, 2 science (laboratory science), 2 history, 3 math, 2 units in foreign language, literature, social science, or additional science, and 8 electives; a minimum C average; two recommendations; and in some cases interviews. A $25 nonrefundable application fee required.

Graduation Requirements: A minimum of 64 hours and completion of a core program to include 12 hours of English, 6 hours of mathematics, 8 hours of science, 12 hours of social studies (government, world geography, and U.S. history), 6 hours of French, 1 hour of freshman orientation, and 2 hours of physical education; minimum 30 semester hours in residence; must attend graduation. $30 graduation fee.

Campus Activities: Social activities include theater and chorale. Leadership opportunities are found in the Student Government Association (SGA) or the various academic clubs, such as history, biology, drama, or French.
