Location: Located in the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, the campus is surrounded by world-class shopping, including Bloomingdale's, Abram & Strauss, Lord & Taylor, and Macy's. The Brooklyn Academy of Music and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens are nearby. Manhattan, internationally known for its social and cultural activities, is 15 miles away. Points of interest include Harlem, Schomburg Arts Center, China Town, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, New York Stock Exchange, Central Park, the Empire State Building, Lincoln Center, Rockefeller Center, and the United Nations Headquarters. The Broadway theater district is world renowned for its on- and off-Broadway productions. HISTORY

New York City Technical College (NYCTC) is a two-year, state-supported, coed technical college founded in 1946 as the New York State Institution of Applied Arts and Sciences. It became part of the City University of New York (CUNY) in 1964. Voorhees Technical Institute was incorporated into the College in 1971, and in 1980, City Technical College was designated as the Technical College of the City University.

The mission of the College is to meet the needs of the city’s culturally diverse population for technical and career education. The curricula, varied and rich, integrates technical and liberal arts education. It is committed to quality education, teaching excellence, and access to higher education for all. It offers programs to students that provide marketable, practical, and technical skills, enabling students to advance in their careers.

ACCREDITATION

New York City Technical College is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSACS) to award the Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Bachelor of Technology degrees.

Open admission except for bachelor’s programs. SAT or ACT required.

Entrance Requirements: Graduation from high school (or equivalent); submission of high school transcript with the following 13 academic units: 4 English, 2 mathematics, 1 science (lab), 2 social sciences, and 4 electives; pre-entrance physical, including chest X-ray results; and proof of immunizations against measles, mumps, and rubella (students not immunized will have sixty days to obtain immunizations and file proof with College; out-of-state students have ninety days). A $40 nonrefundable application fee is required; a $50 application fee is required for transfers.

Graduation Requirements: A minimum 64 semester hours for an associate degree and completion of the core requirements, including 6 English, 4 mathematics, 4 science, 6 social sciences, 6 or 9 foreign language, 9 humanities, and one computer course for all students. At least 34 residence hours and the last semester must be in residence at NYCTC.

A minimum of 128 credits for bachelor’s degree and completion of core requirements, including the above.

Campus Regulations: Mandatory orientation for entering students and family; mandatory CUNY Freshman Skills Assessment Tests (CUNY FSAT).

Campus Services: Health clinic, personal and psychological counseling, career counseling and placement, child care, dental and optical care at little or no cost.

Campus Activities: Students may work on the New Tech Times (student-run newspaper). The Grace Gallery exhibits painting, sculpture, photographs, graphic design, and advertising arts of faculty members, students, alumni, and outside artists.

The more than seventy clubs and organizations on campus, including the Student Government Association, allow students many and varied opportunities to develop self-expression and leadership skills. Theaterworks Acting Groups are available for students interested in expressing themselves through the art of acting.
