Frequently Asked Questions
Who can participate?
The Career College Foundation's (CCF) Imagine America scholarship program is open to any private postsecondary institution which is accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Any graduating high school senior can be considered for selection of one of the three scholarships awarded to his or her high school.
How much does it cost?
There is no cost for participation by either the high school or the student. Each participating career college pays a small fee. Individual scholarships are supported by the institution which the student attends.
What institutions honor the scholarships?
More than 400 career colleges and schools are now voluntarily enrolled to participate in the program. To date, more than 23,000 Imagine America scholarships have been awarded.
Why should my school participate?
In addition to attracting new students to your school, your small contribution will go to support an innovative public awareness program which will bring long overdue recognition to the important role our institutions play in providing education and training for the work force. Through that exposure, more counselors, parents and students will consider career training and education.
What's the likelihood of my career college attracting students from outside my immediate area?
During the first four years of the Imagine America scholarship program, a surprisingly high percentage of students (nearly half) chose to attend career colleges outside of their local community or state.
Why do non-members of the Career College Association have to pay more?
The costs of running and promoting CCF's programs outside the Career College Association(CCA) membership are higher since these costs are not maintained by CCA.
Are the scholarships "renewable"?
No, the CCF Imagine America 2005 program offers scholarships only to graduating high school seniors for use before October 31, 2005.
How many students will be attending my school on one of these scholarships?
You decide based on your institution's willingness to honor as many scholarship students as you wish. The new Web-based Imagine America Scholarship Program will allow each participating career college to easily manage and direct their own scholarships.
What is Imagine America?
Imagine America, offered by the Career College Foundation, is the primary national scholarship program for graduating high school seniors wishing to pursue postsecondary education at a career college.
How many Imagine America scholarships are available to my high school?
Each year, every high school may select three graduating seniors to receive a $1,000 Imagine America scholarship.
What criteria are required of Imagine America recipients?
The Career College Foundation offers the following four selection guidelines:
- Likelihood of successful completion of post-secondary education;
- High school grade point average of 2.5 or greater;
- Financial need; and
- Demonstrated voluntary community service during senior year.
When is the deadline?
For 2005 high school graduates, the deadline is October 31, 2005. Imagine America 2005 begins on November 1, 2004.
