ED Releases Revised Perkins Assignment Procedures

The Department of Education released revised procedures for assigning defaulted Federal Perkins Loans, National Direct Student Loans (NDSL) and National Defense Student Loans (Defense) for collection. Additionally, institutions that cease participation in the Perkins loan program are required to assign both defaulted and non-defaulted Perkins loans to the Department.

The assignment procedures have been updated to reflect the reduced paperwork institutions must present to the Department when assigning these defaulted loans. The process has also been streamlined to make it easier on institutions.
