Instructions for Scheduling Hill Day Appointments

1) Call the Representative's or Senator's Washington, DC office to obtain the name of his/her scheduler and a fax number to send a brief scheduling request. Click below to identify your members of Congress and to find their phone numbers.

2) Draft a brief letter to the scheduler detailing your scheduling request and issues you like to discuss with the Member. For this year's Hill Day, let the scheduler know that you would like to discuss the upcoming reauthorization of the Higher Education Act. Click below for a sample letter.

3) Fax your letter to the scheduler.

4) Call the scheduler a few days after your fax to follow up and schedule the appointment.

Other useful tips:

- Allow for a minimum of 30 minutes per appointment. Due to heightened security on Capitol Hill, you will need extra time traveling between Congressional office buildings.

- Be Prompt and Patient. When it is time to meet with a Member of Congress or aide, be punctual and be patient. It is not uncommon for them to be late, or to have a meeting interrupted, due to the member's crowded schedule. If interruptions do occur, be flexible. Additionally, do not be disappointed if you meet with an aide rather than your Member of Congress.

- Attend the Hill Day briefing prior to Hill Day. At this time, you will receive materials that you can leave with the Member of Congress or his/her staff.
