Mississippi State University (Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education) - Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education
Mississippi State University's Department of Curriculum, Instruction, & Special Education offers a 2+2 Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with either an Early Childhood or Middle School concentration through distance education. The program was developed to significantly improve the educational level of Mississippians by providing accessible and flexible postsecondary education to all individuals via online course delivery. Students are central to the planning, development, and evaluation of all activities of the program, which offers the third and fourth years of course work toward degree completion.
In its quest to provide online learners with the best educational experience possible, the program boasts top quality faculty members who are recognized experts in their respective fields of study and who are real-world practitioners. The degree program is fully accredited by the university's regional accrediting body, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), as well as by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Students are required to participate in internships under Master Teachers to be determined and approved by their academic advisers. All textbooks are available for online purchase via the Mississippi State University's Barnes & Noble bookstore. Some instructors may require additional materials to be purchased, such as field experience or K-8 instructional materials. All materials, such as exercise assignments, study guides, and exams, are delivered within the university's official learning management system, Blackboard. All students admitted to this program require high-speed Internet access, email capability, and their own computers.
Tuition is assessed on a per credit hour basis at the prevailing rates as determined by the Institution of Higher Learning, the governing board of the university. In addition, all courses with the exception of research hour courses are assessed distance fees. Tuition rates and distance fees are subject to change from semester to semester.
A Military Friendly School
Military Advanced Education is including Mississippi State in its third annual Guide to America's Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities. The listing is part of the semi-monthly publication's upcoming November/December print and on-line editions. "Mississippi State is proud to play a leadership role in providing educational opportunities for the men and women of the armed services who sacrifice so much in defense of our great country," said university President Mark Keenum.
