Ball State University -- A Nationally Ranked Research University

Founded in 1918, Ball State University offers a curriculum that combines world-class faculty and staff experiences with top-notch resources to provide a wide range of comprehensive academic opportunities, many of which are nationally ranked. The university offers about 180 bachelor's and about 120 graduate degrees from its 7 academic colleges. The university uses immersive learning programs, community partnerships, and state-of-the-art technology and facilities to prepare graduates to take advantage of top job opportunities while serving the communities in which they live and work.

Classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a research university, high research activity, Ball State University is home to about 700 international students from about 60 countries.

Ball State University has been recognized by a number of major national organizations and publications for its commitment to providing programs that develop student ambition, curiosity, and talent. International Student Programs and Services from the Rinker Center

The Rinker Center for International Programs is dedicated to helping international students successfully navigate all aspects of the Ball State experience, from university admissions and orientation to cultural acclimation. The international services office offers a wide variety of programs and events on international education and intercultural awareness that are beneficial to all Ball State students.

The Ball State University Intensive English Institute (IEI) offers 7-week intensive courses of English instruction, as well as customized personal programs, to non-native English speakers of all levels. Customized programs may include field trips, cultural enrichment activities, counseling services, housing arrangements, and a certificate of participation.

Immersive Learning at Ball State University

Ball State's immersive learning experience is a hallmark of the university's education. Through immersive learning, interdisciplinary teams of students, guided by expert faculty members, develop high-impact projects that benefit business, community, and government partners locally and around the world. Between 2007 and 2012, more than 16,000 students have designed and completed projects ranging from transforming hospital gowns into cozy apparel for cancer patients to developing video games to teach history within elementary schools. Students gain critical thinking and team building skills, as well as invaluable professional experience.

Ball State Faculty Bring Collective Talents to the Classroom

Ball State University is committed to fostering faculty members who are committed, creative, active, and accessible. Their collective talents have helped develop a distinctive environment for learning that affords students with unique, interdisciplinary opportunities. One professor has combined her love of theatre and science to lead students to create original productions about genetic engineering and the atom bomb. Another mentored students in designing news and advertising for television and mobile devices. Many other professors are contributing writers to academic and news publications.

With Ball State University's high-speed, wireless network, students are connected everywhere on campus. Bracken Library, located in the heart of campus, has access to about 2.3 million books, periodicals, microforms, audiovisual materials, software, government publication maps, musical scores, archival records, and other information sources. Inside the library, the Helen B. and Martin D. Schwartz Special Collections and Digital Complex houses a Microsoft Surface computer, digital learning pods with high-powered computers, the digital archives viewing room, and the digital newsstand, enabled to receive television broadcasts from around the world, including networks from Saudi Arabia, China, India, and Korea.

Ball State also offers a leading-edge laboratory for exercise physiology research, state-of-the-art music technology studios, high-tech simulated patients for nursing students, digital fabrication, a center to create glass art, and an arboretum and greenhouses. The David Owsley Museum of Art at Ball State hosts exhibitions of student and faculty art as well as work by major national and international artists.
