They intern at multinational companies -- after all, Miami has 700 of them. Barry students embrace a Dominican tradition that values social justice and service to others at a private, Catholic university that welcomes all. They make a difference.

Living near the international city of Miami and learning with students from around the world, life at Barry University is anything but typical. Students quickly realize that the university offers far more than classrooms and tests; learning comes from everything around them.

Special Barry majors lead to five-year BS to MS degree programs, unique careers in biology, and educator endorsements

Barry University offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs in a variety of focus areas.

BA degrees may be earned in advertising, art, broadcast and emerging media, communication and media studies, English, general studies, history, international studies, music, philosophy, photography, pre-law, public relations, Spanish, theater, and theology.

Art students enjoy a curriculum including specializations in art history, graphic design, and studio art. English majors may pursue literature or professional writing. Barry University's unique photography major allows students to focus on creative photography or biomedical and forensic applications of the skill. Theater majors focus on acting, dance, and technical theater studies. Spanish majors may choose to study language and literature or Spanish translation and interpretation.

Barry University's Bachelor of Science degree offerings include accounting, applied sport and exercise sciences, athletic training, biology, cardiovascular perfusion, chemistry, clinical biology, computer information sciences, computer science, criminology, education, exercise physiology, finance, international business, management, marketing, mathematical sciences, political science, psychology, sociology, sport psychology, and sport management. Within these majors, students can find specializations that cater to their individual career interests.

Athletic training students may specialize in pre-medicine or pre-physical therapy, choosing a track of studies that leads to a five-year BS to master's degree program. Biology majors may focus on areas of general biology, marine biology, or pre-professional biological studies such as pre-medicine, pre-veterinary, and pre-dental. Exercise physiology majors may also choose a five-year BS to MS degree program or pre-medical or pre-physical therapy concentration. Introduced in fall 2014, the sport, exercise, and performance psychology major is the only one of its kind in the state of Florida. The university also offers a psychology major that focuses on organizational and forensic applications of the field. A five-year BS to MS degree program track is also available for sport management students, who can focus on the diving industry as well.

Barry's business programs position students to pursue an MBA or other advanced degree in the field.

Other special majors lead some students to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Fine Arts (BFA), Music (BM), and Social Work (BSW). Fine arts majors may concentrate on art or photography, and music majors may focus on instrumental performance, music education, or vocal performance.

Among Barry's academic offerings is the Bachelor of Science in Education with an MS degree program option. Education students can specialize in infancy/early childhood education, early/middle childhood education, and special education. They can earn their master's degrees with just an extra year of study. What's more, education students earn endorsements in both English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and reading.
