Online Learning at Brenau University

Brenau University was founded in 1878 and is located in Gainesville, GA, 50 miles northeast of Atlanta. With a faculty and staff committed to academic excellence, Brenau has been consistently ranked by the Princeton Review as one of the "Best Southeastern Colleges," and was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the "Best Colleges 2013."

Brenau University first offered distance learning classes in 1998. Today, Brenau University Online offers 14 graduate and 7 undergraduate degree programs. Online courses are taught by certified faculty through the Blackboard platform, a virtual learning environment.

Costs and Financial Aid

Brenau University's online tuition fee is $540 per credit, or $1,620 per course. Online students must also pay a $155 technology fee per semester. Military personnel and their dependents are eligible for discounted tuition.

Brenau University offers financial aid in the form of federal direct loans and grants. State grants and scholarships are available for undergraduate students.

Applications

Prospective students applying online or through the mail must include a nonrefundable $35 application fee.

Undergraduates and transfer students must also present official transcripts from all colleges/universities previously attended. High school transcripts and SAT or ACT scores are required for those with less than 30 hours of college credit. Graduate applicants should provide official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and other program-specific required documents.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

Associate of Arts (A.A.) in Liberal Studies

Brenau University's A.A. in Liberal Studies requires a minimum of 60 hours of coursework, a 30-hour residency, and 2 introductory prerequisite courses. Students may customize degrees with course choices in communication and language fluency, word understanding, science and analytic curiosity, and artistic and creative imagination.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Organizational Leadership

Students interested in occupying a leadership role in a not-for-profit organization may join the BA in Organizational Leadership program. In addition to core courses, students must choose 3 required courses in areas such as budgeting and management control and public finance.

BBA in Accounting

The BBA in Accounting program focuses on teaching the recording, analyzing, interpreting, and communicating information about business enterprises and financial statements. Program candidates must complete the 63-hour major requirement, including a capstone course.

BBA in Business

Brenau University's BBA in Business Administration program prepares students for managerial positions in a wide range of business settings. Students take 45 core credits and 6 elective courses, including upper division and HRM courses for which the prerequisites have been met.

BBA in Human Resources Management

Students in the BS in Human Resources Management program take core courses in business, ethics, leadership, and management principles, as well as 4 elective courses in related subjects. Students must also complete an HRM applied project.

BBA in Marketing

Brenau University's BBA in Marketing prepares students with the broad knowledge base required to work within the marketing department of a firm, as well as the core skills needed to develop effective marketing plans.

Registered Nurse-Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) Degree

The Registered Nurse-Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) degree program allows registered nurses to earn an online BS in Nursing degree in 3 semesters, consisting of 31 hours of coursework. Students also complete a 6-hour practicum.

GRADUATE PROGRAMS

Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Early Childhood Education

The Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Early Childhood Education is offered to certified teachers with a master's in education (M.Ed.) who are working toward a doctoral degree and a career in K-12 administration. The program requires 30 semester hours in professional core classes on educational assessment, leadership, and other issues. Students must also complete an applied research project.

Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Middle Grades Education

Brenau University's Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Middle Grades Education is also offered to certified teachers with an M.Ed. pursuing a doctoral degree and a career in K-12 administration. The degree requires 30 semester hours and allows students to choose between the math/science or language arts/social studies concentrations.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Accounting

The 36-hour curriculum of the MBA in Accounting program includes courses students will need to pass various accounting certification exams. Students must also take 4 courses, some with prerequisite requirements, addressing accounting fundamentals such as taxation, auditing, and CPA law. All students must take a capstone course in strategic management and policy.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Management

Though some students in the MBA in Healthcare Management program are new to the healthcare management field, many enter medical specialists looking for leadership roles within healthcare. The program consists of 33 hours of coursework focused on managerial fundamentals and healthcare strategic management. Upon completion of 5 specific healthcare courses, students will receive a Certificate in Healthcare Management.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resource Management

The MBA in Human Resource Management is a 49 credit hour degree program which leads to an MBA degree and a certification of completion of a concentration in Human Resource Management. Students in the MBA in Human Resource Management will receive instruction grounded in theory and experience in the most current business practices. Students will be prepared to partner with organizational leaders in gaining competitive advantage by capitalizing on their people assets.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Insurance Management

Brenau University's MBA in Insurance Management program is designed for students with CPCU certification, which counts as 12 credits toward the degree. The remainder of the degree comprises 8 courses on managerial and finance issues.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) in International Business

The MBA in International Business (MBA IB) provides graduates with comprehensive knowledge of leadership and management principles in an in international business. The MBA IB is a 13 course, 39 credit hour degree program which includes a required study abroad experience.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Management

The Management MBA provides graduates with comprehensive knowledge of key leadership and management principles. The Management MBA is a 13 course, 39 credit hour degree program which leads to an MBA degree. This concentration enables students to select from a range of electives that personalize their program to fit their needs and interests.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Project Management

Students who complete the core MBA may choose to pursue a concentration in project management. The concentration consists of 4 classes: Introduction to Project Management, Project Teams, Project Planning and Control Techniques, and Strategy and the Project Office, a capstone course for the degree.

Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Early Childhood Education

The M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education is a customizable 34-hour degree program. Students choose professional development courses, graduate reading courses, graduate methods courses, electives, a graduate research course, and 1 of 2 capstone experiences: a 1-hour comprehensive exam or a 3-hour applied research project.

Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Middle Grades Education

Students in the M.Ed. in Middle Grades Education program take courses in professional development, a course in methods of educational research, a graduate reading course, an elective, and either a 1-hour comprehensive exam or a 3-hour applied research project. In addition, students choose a 3-course concentration and a 2-course concentration in science, math, social studies, or language arts.

Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education

The M.Ed. in Special Education is designed to develop and enhance proficiency and professionalism among practicing teachers. Graduates will take active roles in planning, implementing, and evaluating effective teaching practices through reflective decisions relating to content, pedagogy and the learner.

Master of Science (MS) in Applied Gerontology

Brenau students in the MS in Applied Gerontology program earn a master's degree in just 1 year. These students aim to serve the older adult population through nursing, occupational therapy, health science, social work, and more. The program consists of 18 core and 12 elective credit hours and costs $540 per credit hour.

Master of Science (MS) in Organizational Leadership

The MS in Organizational Leadership is designed for students who want to focus on building leadership skills across all types of organizations, rather than just in one specific discipline. MSOL is a 10 course, 30 hour degree program. Coursework provides students with the opportunity to learn about and apply contemporary theory in organization change and development, critical and creative thinking, organizational learning, leadership, conflict resolution, and strategic planning.
