Hands-On Education

Brooks' learn-by-doing philosophy is combined with access to millions of dollars of industry-current equipment, studios, and experienced educators -- many who are also accomplished professionals.

The Ventura campus has studios and shooting spaces, digital labs, and more than a million dollars in equipment is available for student use. The Ventura location, formerly a motion picture studio, covers 8 acres occupying 70,000 square feet of work space. The various labs, lots and sound stages include digital editing labs. In the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, Gallery 27 shows the innovative work of students, faculty members, and alumni.

Learn by Doing -- Photography

Basic photography skills are the foundations of all work in this program. Students focus on lighting, lenses, filters, shadows, composition, and impact. An understanding of pre-production, production, and post-production is emphasized.

Learn by Doing -- Visual Journalism

The visual journalism program is one of the few digital programs of its kind in the nation, where the photojournalist of the past has been re-envisioned as a visual reporter who uses still cameras as well as digital video cameras and writing to tell the story.

Learn by Doing -- Film

The mission of Brooks' Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film degree program is to help prepare students to pursue career opportunities in the media that involve motion picture development, production, and postproduction.

Classes are taught in classrooms and labs that give students real-life experiences. They can learn on industry-current equipment that many of today's professional filmmakers have used.

Learn by Doing -- Graphic Design

Through class projects, internships, and work in the "Design Incubator," a class focusing on real-life projects for the community, students can receive real-life experience to learn what it takes to become successful graphic design professionals.

Brooks Institute's graphic design program includes classes such as "Sign and Symbol Design," "Typography," "Digital Imaging in Design," "Digital Animation," and "Website Development."
