Brown Mackie College - Phoenix (Brown Mackie College) is one of over twenty-five locations in the Brown Mackie College family of schools (, which is dedicated to providing educational programs that prepare students to pursue entry-level positions in a competitive, rapidly changing workplace. The Brown Mackie College family of schools offers bachelor degree, associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs in health sciences, business, information technology, legal studies, and design to over 20,000 students in the Midwest, Southeast, Southwest, and Western United States.

Brown Mackie College - Phoenix was founded in 2009 as a branch of Brown Mackie College - Tucson, Arizona.

Brown Mackie College - Phoenix is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees and diplomas. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Academic Programs

Brown Mackie College provides higher education to traditional and nontraditional students through associate degree and diploma programs that assist in enhancing their career opportunities, broadening their perspectives through appropriate general education courses, thinking independently and critically, and improving problem-solving abilities. The college strives to develop within its students the desire for lifelong and continued education.

Each college quarter comprises twelve weeks. Associate degree programs require a minimum of eight quarters to complete. Programs are offered on a year-round basis, providing students with the ability to work uninterrupted toward completion of their programs. The college offers all programs in a unique One Course a Month format. This allows students to focus studies on only one course for four weeks. This schedule has proven convenient for students with multiple obligations such as jobs and family.

Associate Degree Programs: The Associate of Science degree is awarded in accounting technology, biomedical equipment technology, business management, criminal justice, health care administration, information technology, medical assisting, paralegal, and surgical technology.

The Associate of Applied Science degree is awarded in nursing and occupational therapy assistant.

Diploma Program: Brown Mackie College - Phoenix offers a medical assistant diploma program.

The American Medical Technologists (AMT), which offers the certification for Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), accepts the accreditation of Brown Mackie College - Phoenix. Students will qualify to take the RMA certification examination upon graduating the Brown Mackie College - Phoenix medical assisting and medical assistant programs. Graduates of the 48 credit-hour medical assistant program are not qualified to take the AMT/RMA exam.

Brown Mackie College - Phoenix does not guarantee third-party certification. Outside agencies control the requirements for certifications and are subject to change without notice to Brown Mackie College.


Tuition for programs in the 2011-12 academic year was $294 per credit hour, with a $15 per credit hour general fee applied to instructional costs for activities and services. For the surgical technology program, the tuition was $340 per credit hour with a $15 per credit hour general fee applied to instructional costs for activities. For the occupational therapy assistant program, the tuition was $361 per credit hour with a $15 per credit hour general fee applied to instructional costs for activities. For the nursing program, the tuition was $390 per credit hour with a $25 per credit hour general fee applied to instructional costs for activities. Textbooks and other instructional materials vary by program.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for those who qualify. The college maintains a full-time staff of Student Financial Services Advisers to assist qualified students in obtaining financial assistance. The college participates in several student aid programs. Forms of financial aid available to those who qualify through federal resources include the Federal Pell Grant Program, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Program, Federal Work-Study Program, Federal Perkins Loan Program, Federal Stafford Student Loan Program (subsidized and unsubsidized), and the Federal PLUS Loan Program.

Each year, the college makes available President's Scholarships of $1000 each to qualifying seniors from area high schools. Up to three (3) scholarships may be awarded per high school. In order to qualify, a senior must be graduating from a participating high school, must be maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0, and must submit a brief essay. The student's extracurricular activities and community service are also considered. The President's Scholarship is available only to students enrolling in one of the college's degree programs. Students awarded the scholarship must enroll at Brown Mackie College - Phoenix between June and September immediately following their high school graduation. Applications for these scholarships can be obtained from the guidance departments of participating high schools. These applications must be completed and returned to the college by March 31.


Experienced faculty members provide academic support and are committed to the academic and technical preparation of their students. The college has both full- and part-time faculty members. The average student-faculty ratio is 14:1. Each student is assigned a program director as an adviser.

Facilities and Resources

Brown Mackie College - Phoenix has a variety of classrooms including computer labs housing the latest technology in the industry. High-speed access to the Internet and other online resources are available for students and faculty. Multimedia classrooms provide a learning environment equipped with overhead projectors, TVs, DVD/VCR players, computers, and sound systems.

Admission Requirements

Each applicant for admission is assigned to an Assistant Director of Admissions, who directs the applicant through the steps of the admissions process, providing information on curriculum, policies, procedures, and services and assisting the applicant in setting necessary appointments and interviews. To qualify for admission, each applicant must provide documentation of graduation from an accredited high school or from a state-approved secondary education curriculum or provide official documentation of high school graduation equivalency. All transcripts become the property of the college.
