The College

Brown Mackie College--Tulsa (Brown Mackie College) is one of over twenty-five locations in the Brown Mackie College family of schools (www.brownmackie.edu), which is dedicated to providing educational programs that prepare students to pursue entry-level positions in a competitive, rapidly changing workplace. Brown Mackie College schools offer bachelor degree, associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs in health sciences, business, information technology, legal studies, and design to over 20,000 students in the Midwest, Southeast, Southwest, and Western United States.

Brown Mackie College--Tulsa was founded in 2008 as a branch of Brown Mackie College--South Bend, Indiana.

Brown Mackie College--Tulsa is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award bachelor degrees, associate degrees, and diplomas. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Brown Mackie College--Tulsa is conveniently located at 4608 South Garnett Road, Suite 110 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The College has a generous parking area and is easily accessible by public transportation.

Programs of Study and Degrees

Brown Mackie College--Tulsa provides higher education to traditional and nontraditional students through bachelor degree, associate degree, and diploma programs that assist in enhancing their career opportunities, broadening their perspectives through appropriate general education courses, thinking independently and critically, and improving problem-solving abilities. The college strives to develop within its students the desire for lifelong and continued education.

The Bachelor of Science degree is awarded in business administration, criminal justice, health-care management, and legal studies.

The Associate of Applied Science degree is awarded in accounting technology, business management, criminal justice, healthcare administration, information technology, medical assisting, nursing, occupational therapy assistant, paralegal, and surgical technology.

Diploma programs are offered in accounting, business, criminal justice, medical assistant, and paralegal assistant.

The American Medical Technologists (AMT), which offers the certification for Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), accepts the accreditation of Brown Mackie College--Tulsa. Students will qualify to take the Registered Medical Assistant certification examination upon graduating the Brown Mackie College--Tulsa Medical Assisting and Medical Assistant programs. Graduates of the 48-credit-hour Medical Assistant program are not qualified to take the AMT/RMA exam.

Brown Mackie College--Tulsa does not guarantee third-party certification. Outside agencies control the requirements for certifications and are subject to change without notice to Brown Mackie College.

Academic Programs

Each college quarter comprises twelve weeks. Bachelor degree programs require a minimum of fifteen quarters to complete. Associate degree programs require a minimum of eight quarters to complete. Programs are offered on a year-round basis, providing students with the ability to work uninterrupted toward completion of their programs. The college offers all programs in a unique One-Course-a-Month format. This allows students to focus on only one course for four weeks. This schedule has proven convenient for students with multiple obligations, such as jobs and family.

Academic Facilities

Opened in 2008, this modern facility offers more than 25,000 square feet of tastefully decorated classrooms, laboratories, and office space designed to specifications of Brown Mackie College for its business, medical, and technical programs. Instructional equipment is comparable to current technology used in business and industry today. Modern classrooms for special instructional needs offer multimedia capabilities with surround sound and overhead projectors accessible through computer, DVD, or VHS. Internet access and instructional resources are available at the college's library. Experienced faculty members provide academic support and are committed to the academic and technical preparation of their students.

The college is nonresidential; public transportation and ample parking at no cost are available.

Costs

Tuition for programs in the 2011-12 academic year was $294 per credit hour, with a general fee of $15 per credit hour applied to instructional costs for activities and services. Tuition for the occupational therapy program was $361 per credit hour with a general fee of $15 per credit hour applied to instructional costs for activities. Tuition for the surgical technology program was $340 per credit hour with a general fee of $15 per credit hour applied to instructional costs for activities. Tuition for the nursing program was $390 per credit hour with a general fee of $25 per credit hour applied to instructional costs for activities. Textbooks and other instructional materials vary by program.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for those who qualify. The college maintains a full-time staff of Student Financial Services Advisors to assist qualified students in obtaining financial assistance. The college participates in several student aid programs. Forms of financial aid available through federal resources include the Federal Pell Grant Program, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Program, Federal Work-Study Program, Federal Perkins Loan Program, Federal Stafford Student Loan Program (subsidized and unsubsidized), and the Federal PLUS Loan Program.

Admission Requirements

Each applicant for admission is assigned an Assistant Director of Admissions, who directs the applicant through the steps of the admissions process, providing information on curriculum, policies, procedures, and services and assisting the applicant in setting up necessary appointments and interviews. To qualify for admission, applicants must be a graduate of a public or private high school or a correspondence school or education center that is accredited by an agency that is recognized by the U.S. or State of Oklahoma Department of Education or any of its approved agents. As part of the admissions process, applicants must sign a document attesting to graduation or completion and containing the information to obtain verification of such. Verification must be obtained within the first term (90 days) or the student will be withdrawn from the institution following established guidelines for withdrawn students noted in the catalog. Title IV aid will not be dispersed until verification of graduation or completion has been received by the college. All transcripts become the property of the college.

Students are given an assessment of academic skills. Although the results of this assessment do not determine eligibility for admission, they provide the college with a means of determining the need for academic support.
