Overview

California Baptist University -- Ranked Best Regional University

California Baptist University (CBU) was founded in 1950 by the California Southern Baptist Convention to provide a liberal arts education in a Christian environment. Today, CBU is listed among the top private Christian colleges in Southern California. The "US News and World Report" has named CBU as a Best Regional University. "G.I. Jobs" magazine also named CBU on their list of top military friendly schools.

The core values of CBU ensure that graduates are academically prepared, biblically rooted, globally minded and equipped to serve. Programs are designed to help students discover and live the purpose for which they have been created, through a faith-based environment that integrates academics with spiritual and social development opportunities.

Community Life at CBU

The Department of Community Life provides programming designed to enhance the CBU experience. In addition to traditional campus programs like coffeehouse performances and late-night breakfasts, the department organizes commuter programs, multicultural and educational programs, campus community and collaborative programs, and outdoor adventures. Commuter programs, such as the Commuter Sidewalk Cafe and free commuter lunches, provide opportunities for students who live off campus to come together. Outdoor adventures have taken students to local parks and rock climbing gyms, the beach, and even Disneyland.

Students may also choose to create their own extracurricular experiences through CBU's more than 30 student clubs and organizations. For example, pre-professional clubs active on campus include the Accounting Society, the Pre-PA Club, the Pre-Vet Club, and the Pre-Law Society. Social organizations include the Cooking Club, the Creative Writing Club, the Film Appreciation Club, and the Fitness Club.

The Office of Spiritual Life at CBU

The Office of Spiritual Life offers guidance in helping CBU students discover their purpose in life, as well as helping those students to align their faith through chapel, campus ministries, and compassion ministries programs. The California Baptist University Chapel offers weekly experiences that challenge students to refresh their hearts, minds, and souls. Events include musicians, performers, speakers, and leaders. CBU's Campus Ministries encourage students to become disciples through programs like small groups, Athletes in Action, and the Christian Challenge. Compassion Ministries offers community service opportunities that allow students to put their spiritual knowledge in action.

Financial Aid Opportunities at CBU

The CBU financial aid office is committed to helping students find the resources needed to complete their educations. Undergraduate students have access to many types of financial assistance, including scholarships, loans, and awards. Scholarships are awarded in several categories, including academic scholarships, athletic scholarships, and departmental scholarships. For instance, drama scholarships are awarded to participants in departmental productions or certain campus organizations. Music scholarships are awarded for merit in vocal, instrumental, and piano performances. Minister's Kin scholarships are awarded to dependent children of church pastors, ministers, chaplains, or missionaries.

Located in Riverside, California

California Baptist University's main campus is located in Riverside, California. The 128-acre campus has a beautiful view of the San Bernardino Mountains, and is completed by palm trees and mission-style buildings with distinctive red roofs. Extension sites are located throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

The CBU Riverside campus is less than an hour from Laguna Beach or the ski slopes of Big Bear and Mount Baldy. Students can also take advantage of the local entertainment and shopping scene, as the city has many coffee shops, movie theaters, restaurants, a symphony orchestra, and other activities. The historic Mission Inn, the landmark that has entertained countless celebrities and 8 presidents, is also nearby.
