Cedar Crest College - Overview

Educating the Next Generation of Leaders

Since its founding in 1867, Cedar Crest College has offered women an outstanding liberal arts education. Named a "Top Regional College" and "Best Value" by U.S. News and World Report (2012), our curriculum is designed to provide students with the educational foundation and skills needed to achieve at the highest level. Cedar Crest students are urged to utilize critical thinking, develop advanced research skills, gain awareness of global issues, and contribute to the community.

The College offers women a challenging educational experience in more than 30 fields of study, from art, education and the humanities to forensic science and the biological and physical sciences. Many students choose to double major or add a minor to customize their degree and tailor their coursework to their interests and career goals.

Cedar Crest offers bachelor's, master's, and certification programs. Small class sizes and a close-knit community mean that students receive individualized instruction and quickly develop relationships with both faculty and peers. The College encourages women to pursue their ambitions and inspire future generations, and prepares them to lead in today's global society.

Choosing a women's college

Cedar Crest College is a 21st century women's college and honored to be named one of the top ten women's college in the country.

A large and growing body of research concludes that attending a women's college offers multiple advantages. Students are disproportionately higher achievers, and they register greater satisfaction with their college experience. Students also demonstrate a greater mastery of writing, critical thinking, cultural awareness and foreign language skills. Women who hope to achieve at the highest levels can benefit greatly from attending a women's college.

At Cedar Crest, our students are supported and mentored by faculty members who are themselves women leaders, scientists, writers, artists, and business women. It's also worth noting that our student leaders are not women by default. Our College's leaders are intelligent, passionate women who learn the art of leadership first-hand as club presidents, activity chairs, and campus ambassadors. These opportunities insure that graduates are prepared to succeed in both their careers and in the community.

Students are also encouraged to attend lectures, study abroad, join a learning community, conduct ground-breaking research, and continue our College's legacy of community and civic service. Whether a freshmen or senior, each student is urged to push beyond her current boundaries of knowledge and critical thinking skills.

An active learning experience

Gone are the days of just lecturing and taking notes -- Cedar Crest professors introduce new topics through in-class experiments, advanced research projects, and interactive class discussions.

From the forensic science and nursing laboratories to our newly constructed media center, the College utilizes technology to its fullest to ensure that students are prepared for today's high-tech careers and careers that don't yet exist. We strongly believe that a liberal arts education should prepare students to both succeed in their career field and to adapt to an ever-changing world of technology.

Advanced Honors courses for high-achieving students

The Cedar Crest College Honors Program has a rich history of providing academically gifted students with a challenging educational experience. Our advanced Honors courses are known for their engaging classroom discussions, graduate-level research opportunities, and a chance to explore topics that fall outside of the narrow focus of traditional academic majors.

To graduate with an Honors diploma, students must successfully complete at least four honors courses and an Honors project. This project may take the form of advanced research, a creative project, or a performance. Work on this project may begin as early as the sophomore year.

All students applying for admission are considered for invitation into the Honors Program. Students who are eligible for Honors admission will be contacted by the Honors department after acceptance.
