Chaminade University of Honolulu is a 4-year, private, liberal arts university located in the heart of Honolulu, Hawaii. Founded in 1955, Chaminade University offers 21 bachelor degree programs and 5 graduate programs. With an undergraduate population of 1,200 students, every student is an important part of the Chaminade classroom and community. Chaminade professors recognize the importance of traditional education mixed with hands-on learning. Subject-based community service is an important component to many classes taught at Chaminade, providing students with practical knowledge while also helping the greater Honolulu community. Students at Chaminade University enjoy a diverse student body and a close-knit campus community. Students are encouraged to participate in community service, clubs, and intramural activities to enhance their experiences at Chaminade. The university offers over 30 clubs and organizations, ranging from student government to clubs for majors and cultural clubs. The university's residential community is comprised of six residential housing facilities.

Merit-Scholarships

Chaminade University awards generous merit-based scholarships for all incoming students who display strong academic potential. International high school students with minimum cumulative high school GPAs of 3.00 are awarded high school merit scholarships upon acceptance to the university. International transfer students with minimum cumulative college GPAs of 2.50 are eligible for the university's merit-based Transfer Grant. Scholarship values range from $4,000-$6,000 per year, depending upon each student's incoming status and academic record.

Dedicated Professors

Chaminade University's 12:1 student-to-faculty member ratio provides close interaction between students and their professors. Professors are not only sources of information, but mentors and advisors for students. At Chaminade University, professors will know their students and be available to guide them on college and career choices.

ESL at Chaminade

ESL is offered at Chaminade for students who need further education in English proficiency. Depending on the student's ability in English, up to a full year of ESL preparation may be required. Upon completion of the ESL program, students will be required to complete English placement tests to confirm their ability to complete regular university course work. Students enrolled in Chaminade's ESL program will have opportunities to be part of the Chaminade community while being immersed in intensive English courses; campus housing and activities are available to all ESL students.

Specialty Programs

Students enrolled in the university's professional studies department gain broad understandings of business practices and policies shaping the modern global business climate. Chaminade's program uses core curriculum to study the business systems of global corporations throughout all of its courses. Students will gain understandings of how businesses work across divisions, and will fully experience how the concepts they are studying in the classroom will be used in their professional lives after graduation. The professional studies program also offers a variety of internships and community service programs for students to apply their knowledge to practical business situations. Majors offered in the professional studies program include accounting, business administration, international trade, and integrated marketing communication.

Chaminade's biosciences program is anchored by cutting-edge curriculum in the biology and biochemistry fields. Students will be enrolled in highly developed courses that prepare them for medical school, graduate school, and successful careers in research and bio-tech industries. The university's students can enroll in courses like "Biostatistics," "Instrumental Analysis," "Genomics," and "Neurophysiology." Students also have opportunities to participate in research projects with Chaminade's nationally and internationally recognized faculty.

Nursing at Chaminade University is a 4 year program, where students begin taking nursing classes from day 1. Chaminade's program features state-of-the-art facilities with two 16-bed hospital suites and human simulators for a hands-on learning approach. Students will gain working knowledge of nursing principles even before starting their clinical internships at local hospitals and long-term care facilities. Chaminade nurses are prepared for work in genetics and genomics, diverse health settings, and care for aging communities.
