Curry College - Overview

Small Classes Allow Faculty to Identify Student Talents

The faculty and administration of Curry College design academic programs to support student success. The small classes at this New England college enable instructors to identify student strengths and talents. With an average class size of 19 and a 12:1 student- faculty ratio, professors are able to directly relate with class members.

Small classes create an interactive setting, where students communicate with professor and peers. The faculty and professionals on staff also act as mentors inside and outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to meet frequently with advisors who know them as individuals as well. Curry's emphasis on small class sizes helps foster these mentoring relationships.

Programs of study are supported by the academic resources and personalized attention to advance student excellence, such the Academic Enrichment Center for tutoring. For those students desiring additional challenges, there are Honors Programs, including one designed especially for first-year students. Recognizing that individual learning styles differ, Curry College even allows students to develop their own majors customized to interests. With personalized programs and small class sizes that create a cohesive learning community, Curry's goal is to ensure students are educated as unique individuals.

Social and Cultural Vitality of Boston Is Minutes from Curry College

The 135 wooded acres of Curry College stands as an inviting haven, yet the excitement of downtown Boston, one of New England's historic cities, lies only minutes away. The college considers its location the best of both worlds. It is a small suburban community close to Boston's intellectual, entertainment, and career-oriented opportunities. Boston has a tradition of education, with respected colleges, museums, and libraries. To see an overall view of the city, students new to the area can visit the Skywalk Observatory.

Curry campus members' free time is well spent at the Museum of African American History, Harvard Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Science, or New England Aquarium. They may want to soak in the wonder of the ballet company or Boston Pops Orchestra. A stroll along the red-brick, Freedom Trail leads Curry students to nationally treasured sites that recreate events from the American Revolution.

The variety of New England professional sports teams can turn the Curry community into enthusiastic fans of football, basketball, baseball, and hockey. The New England area also supplies a blend of outdoor settings from natural parks to beaches. Students may want to try downhill or cross country skiing, whale watching on the Atlantic, or hikes along the Appalachian Trail. For horseback riding, hiking, and skiing closer to campus, the scenic Blue Hills Reservation is virtually next door to Curry College.

Student Center Hub of Campus Services and Activities

Events to enrich Curry College student life are organized through a Student Activities office, which works with organizations to plan entertainment and cultural activities. Student life organizations include academic, communications, service, social, and sports groups.

Students may get involved with student government or serve on a campus board that plans everything from game nights to day trips. Curry's community service group helps those in need, communication majors contribute to the yearbook or campus radio, and competition heats up with NCAA Division III athletics and intramural sports. From international clubs to theatre, student life holds many social and intellectual possibilities.

Curry College is proud of its student center designed as a central hub for campus life. With over 80,000 square feet, the Student Center supports extracurricular and co-curricular activities. A gymnasium and state-of-the-art fitness center benefit health and wellness. When hunger calls, the center offers a roomy dining hall. Students discuss their days in a lounge with a homelike atmosphere or in the coffee café, sports café, or game room. Clubs have access to meeting areas, and students find solace in the chapel.

The student center is designed to provide vital services in one place, including a post office and bookstore. Outside the center, an amphitheatre-style meeting area invites students to connect between classes in this central campus location.
