Overview

Who We Are

Evangel University is one of the top Christian universities in the country. With 10 academic departments, the university offers more than 100 undergraduate academic programs and 9 master's programs. Evangel is a residential university, drawing more than 2,100 students from all 50 states and many foreign countries.

Through Evangel's Professional Studies Department, accelerated degree-completion programs are available for working adults, and graduate study programs are offered in education, counseling, psychology, music and organizational leadership.

Professors are committed to teaching from a biblical worldview. The integration of faith, learning, and life has been the focus of the institution since its formation in 1955.

As the national university of arts, sciences, and professions of the Assemblies of God, Evangel trains young people for leadership positions in business, government, church and home.

The Campus Environment

The university recently completed an extensive campus development program, with 9 major construction projects since 1997, including 2 3-story academic buildings, a student fitness center, the state of the art Barnett Fine Arts Center and the new administration building, Riggs Hall.

The Evangel campus is more than just buildings. It is a network of classmates who will become lifelong friends, and staff and faculty members who will become mentors. The Activities Board, made up of members of the student body, presents activities throughout the year to create lifelong memories. Highlights include Harvest Fest, Spring Fling, homecoming events, and end-of-the-year banquets. Intramural athletic teams are a great outlet for stress relief after class and provide a chance to meet people from across campus. Residence halls encourage healthy relationships by providing hall-wide and individual floor activities. Roommates and hall mates become more than friends; they become family.

Evangel is located at the heart of one of the fastest-growing -- yet safest and cleanest -- cities in the nation. Rated one of the Top 10 Places to Live and Work by "Employment Review" magazine and Missouri's #1 Sportstown by "Sports Illustrated," Springfield is a medium-sized city with abundant job opportunities, as well as hotels, shopping, coffeehouses, restaurants and many churches. It is also only an hour away from the lakes and entertainment of Branson, MO.

Boldly Christian

At Evangel, students' spiritual growth is encouraged through chapel services, biblical teaching and a wide range of service opportunities on campus and in the community. Resident hall directors, the campus pastor, professors, and staff members are all available to lend a listening ear or provide direction as students progress through the formative years of young adulthood. Friends are there to encourage and inspire one another. Doctrine is not dictated, but one's beliefs are strengthened, supported, and clarified through the community of faith at Evangel.

Unquestionably Academic

Evangel graduates enjoy great acceptance in the market place and graduate schools throughout the US and abroad. Recent graduates have secured positions in all arenas of the workforce -- from classrooms to Top 5 accounting firms. Some have made the choice to matriculate at prestigious universities, from Cambridge to Yale to the Washington University School of Medicine.

Evangel University provides opportunities for learning through its 10 academic departments. The university holds accreditation, not only with the Higher Learning Commission (North Central Association of Colleges and Schools), but also with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, National Association of Schools of Music, and the Council on Social Work Education. Evangel also is in candidacy status for accreditation with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs.

The student teacher ratio is 15:1, which allows for individualized attention for students. This provides for a rich, academic experience where faculty members often serve as mentors and form lifelong bonds with their students.

Learning at Evangel is not limited to the classroom. Each year, hundreds of students travel throughout the US and abroad with music groups, service teams, or study abroad programs. During the past 28 years, the concert choir and concert orchestra have both toured in the 48 contiguous states, Canada, the Bahamas and 15 countries in Europe. In addition, the choir has performed for 2 presidents and has been honored with 4 solo performances at Carnegie Hall.

Evangel students may choose to be members of the marching band, a rare opportunity for a Christian college campus. Opportunities also abound for involvement in campus theatrical productions and musicals.

EU Athletics

Evangel is part of the Heart of America Athletic Conference and has intercollegiate sports teams for men in football, basketball, baseball, track and field, cross-country, and golf (there is also club-level soccer for men). Women can participate in volleyball, basketball, softball, track and field, cross-country, and tennis.

Crusader athletes are also actively involved in outreach through the athletic ministries program. Formed in 2009, T.E.A.M. (The Evangel Athletics Ministry) gives athletes the opportunity to serve local agencies and experience short-term international ministry trips. T.E.A.M. gives student athletes the chance to blend a passion for their sports with a passion for serving others.

Athletes plan and organize the trips with their teams and coaches. Trips often include competitions against local teams, educational experiences, service projects, team-building activities, and exciting cultural excursions. Students often return from their trips with renewed focus on their relationships with God and with others. They have a deeper appreciation for their experiences in the United States and are more aware of the depth and meaning of their calling and their Evangel academic and athletic career.

Evangel Provides Value

Evangel University not only strives for academic excellence, but they also strive to keep costs low. In addition, approximately 90% of Evangel students receive financial aid.

The value of a Christian college education is evidenced in the lives of more than 24,000 alumni who are serving around the world. These alumni include such prominent people as renowned cardio thoracic surgeon and artificial heart pioneer Dr. James Long; acclaimed singer/songwriter and author Sara Groves; "New York Times" best-selling author Beverly Lewis; The Honorable Sam Der-Yeghiayan, Federal Judge, Chicago, IL; Kevin Compton, owner of The San Jose Sharks (NHL); Steve Poppen, Vice President of Finance, Minnesota Vikings (NFL); Don Zimmerman, Senior Vice President/Chief Information Officer, The Wendy's Company; Phil Stanton, Founding Member, "Blue Man Group," New York City; Dr. Barry Corey, President, Biola University, La Mirada, Calif.; Major General Cecil Richardson, Chief of Chaplains, US Air Force; and Darin Stahl, Special Agent, US Secret Service, George Bush Division, Dallas, Texas.
