Overview

FIRST-Our Felician College Community Cares about You

Felician College is an independent, Catholic Franciscan school in the liberal arts tradition, founded by the Felician Sisters. The school offers academic programs for a coeducational population of students with diverse religious, cultural, socioeconomic, and geographical backgrounds. The College provides extensive English as second language programs to assist students at all program levels. The faculty and staff at Felician have adopted a "students first" philosophy.

The College's undergraduate curriculum has been crafted to prepare graduates to enter rewarding careers and to lead enriched lives. Students complete courses in an array of liberal arts subjects in order to build the transferrable skills which are crucial for the 21st century workforce, then turn their focus to a deep exploration within their major field. While they complete their studies, students have access to a wide range of resources and advisement opportunities that has been carefully constructed in order to support the success of our widely ranging student population.

Residential students are incorporated into a nurturing and supportive community. Our residence halls are staffed by full-time employees and student Resident Assistants who are available 24 hours per day.

The college is committed to distinction in both its academic and student development programs. Its educational foundation is based on the Catholic Franciscan spirit that allows students from diverse backgrounds to feel at home in a caring college community. Students benefit from a stellar education in a moral and spiritual setting.

Be Recognized as an Individual: Small Classes and a Crafted Core Curriculum

Four academic divisions at Felician College offer degree choices from more than 55 undergraduate programs, including communication, business, psychology, computer information systems, nursing, education, biology, and more. The Divisions of Business, Arts and Sciences, Education, and Nursing feature small classes and individual attention. Students benefit from individualized attention, even in core curriculum courses that meet the college's general education requirements. Our small classes are instructed by respected and respectful faculty members who become acquainted with students and their intellectual interests.

Felician's core curriculum and general education courses are designed to enrich students' lives and broaden their career opportunities. The 12-credit core curriculum, developed for 21st century students, consists of four main interdisciplinary classes plus 20 hours of service learning. The core forms a "framework" for the Felician education. Students then build a foundation for their ongoing education by completing 36-38 general education credits within the liberal arts. Through Felician's general education requirements, students build transferrable skills that are assets in a wide range of professions.

Individualized attention has emerged as a Felician hallmark. Our first year students participate in a Freshman Year Experience course taught by their academic advisor to help them make the transition from high school to college learning. Our students benefit from the personalized learning environment and enhanced learning opportunities that are created by our small classes, which average 15 students or fewer. Indeed, individualized attention at Felician is present at all levels ranging from the application process to long past graduation, with ongoing resources available to alumni such as our Career Services Center.

Take Advantage of the Art, Culture, and Entertainment

When it comes to entertainment, Felician College opens amazing variety to our students. Students take classes at our two New Jersey campuses, only minutes apart, in the towns of Lodi and Rutherford, which boast exciting local shops and restaurants. The beautifully landscaped campuses are nestled in suburban towns, only 12 miles from New York City. Sports fans can cheer on their classmates in a variety of NCAA Division II sports, or enjoy professional football, horse racing, auto racing and more a few miles away at the New Jersey Meadowlands sports complex. They can also easily board a train at a nearby station and take advantage of the rich cultural centers and unparalleled internship opportunities afforded by our proximity to New York City and Manhattan. Many of the College's academic programs take advantage of New York museums and broad cultural resources.

The United Nations, located in New York City, provides Felician with a truly unique opportunity for students. Felician College is one of very few schools in the world that has been granted Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) status. This has allowed us to develop the United Nations Fellows Program, in which student fellows are able to participate in conversations of global impact and observe how these shared issues are handled within a multinational context.
