Lawrence Technological University - Overview

Possible is Everything

Lawrence Technological University is a small, private university providing students with a rigorous, high-quality education - an education that pays off. Most Lawrence Tech students are employed within a month of graduating, and according to a recent "Bloomberg Businessweek" survey, the earning power of a Lawrence Tech bachelor's degree ranks in the top 30 percent in the nation.

The University

Located in Southfield, a dynamic business- and technology-focused suburb in southeastern Michigan, Lawrence Tech offers more than 100 innovative programs in Colleges of Architecture and Design, Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Management - all featuring exceptional exposure to theory and practice. Lawrence Tech features numerous new degrees and certificates in the emerging fields of sustainability, alternative energy, defense, and the life sciences.

The university offers small class sizes, with lectures, classes, and labs taught by faculty members with current industry experience. Courses are available days, evenings, weekends, and online. Lawrence Tech's online program - LTU Online - has been ranked among America's best by "US News & World Report".

From the economy to the environment, Lawrence Tech is aggressively addressing the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. The institution's distinctive Leadership Program is designed to help students develop entrepreneurial spirits and global views while providing them practical, marketable advantages. Through leadership-focused courses and experiences integrated into all undergraduate curricula, students can gain the critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills that employers seek. Students of Lawrence Tech graduate with degrees and leadership portfolios, which can help them stand out in today's competitive global environment.

Lawrence Tech also maintains relationships with universities in China, India, Canada, Europe, Mexico, and the Middle East.

Creating a greener future

Lawrence Tech has been a part of the technological revolution for 80 years, in addition to being at the forefront of the green revolution. From sustainable engineering, architecture, and construction to chemistry and biology, students are combining theory and practice with "green" technology and are designing everything from earth-friendly transportation to energy-efficient homes.

Even Lawrence Tech's campus in Southfield is green-oriented. The A. Alfred Taubman Student Services Center is an innovative 42,000-square-foot building that utilizes many energy-efficient and environmentally friendly features and technologies, where students can study its geothermal wells; bioswale; water recycling systems; its exterior, designed to reduce heat loss and maximize daylight without succumbing to excessive heat gain; and its multi-layer "green" roof, planted with sedum, a drought-resistant groundcover.

Leading-edge facilities

Just as Lawrence Tech is committed to a better environment, it is focused on providing students the tools they need to compete and succeed in a technology-driven world. Michigan's first university to offer students a wireless campus, Lawrence Tech provides powerful, custom-configured laptop or tablet computers to all undergraduates -- a unique benefit valued up to $15,000.

Its high-tech 102-acre campus features a full range of academic, housing, and recreational amenities, as well as state-of-the-art learning facilities. Students use advanced facilities, including the Center for Innovative Materials Research; architectural and design studios; a structural testing center; a wind tunnel; wood, metal, and model shops; a 4 x 4 chassis dynamometer; and labs for alternative energy, robotics, biomedical research, graphics, and much more.

Students may participate in innovative applied research partnerships with industry and government in Southfield and nationwide, all of which offer them remarkable hands-on experience.

Student Life

Lawrence Tech offers an exciting student life. More than 50 student clubs and organizations, including fraternities, sororities, honor societies, and student chapters of professional groups all sponsor a variety of activities.
