Marymount Manhattan College - Overview

Marymount Manhattan College Offers an Education of Depth and Breadth to Diverse, Deserving Students

Initially opened as the New York City campus of Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York, Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) became an independently chartered institution in 1961. The MMC campus comprises two buildings, located between Second and Third Avenues at 221 E. 71st Street in Manhattan. It is a center of learning for more than 2,000 undergraduate students from forty-eight states and thirty-six international countries. Small classes, personalized instruction, and the low 12:1 student-faculty ratio help students complete the core curriculum of liberal arts requirements in one of 17 major programs. MMC also offers such special programs as Performing Arts in London, an Academic Year Abroad, and internships with many prestigious companies in New York City. MMC students also benefit from the rich resources available through faculty affiliations and the school's New York City location.

As an independent, urban liberal arts college, the college educates a socioeconomically and culturally diverse student body. By supporting intellectual achievement and enabling personal growth, MMC provides various paths fulfilling careers and productive lives. A core part of the mission is encouraging social, political, cultural, and ethical awareness to promote collaborative enterprises for the improvement of the global community. Toward this goal, MMC offers strong programs in the arts and sciences for students at all ages and levels, in addition to powerful pre-professional preparation. The small classes and personalized attention that students receive from the dedicated faculty make Marymount Manhattan College a true, world-class educational resource center for the entire community.

Seventeen Majors, 38 Minors, and Special Programs Are Available to Students with Every Interest

MMC offers 17 majors and 38 minors. Students are allowed to combine major choices with one of many concentrations for almost endless educational options. Five major divisions -- Accounting and Business Management; Fine and Performing Arts; Humanities; Sciences; and Social Sciences -- offer an astonishing variety of programs and concentrations. Choices range from acting, art, dance, and theater arts to accounting, business management, communication arts, English, philosophy, and religious studies to biology, psychology, speech-language pathology, history, international studies, political science, and sociology. Special interdisciplinary minors like environmental studies and gender and sexuality studies keep MMC on the leading edge of higher education and relevance.

Dedicated faculty members teach the classes and also share their research and creativity in performances, exhibitions, forums, and guest lectures. Their contributions and ongoing service to MMC are vital to the achievement of the college's institutional mission. Faculty also sponsor student organizations, chair and serve on both standing and ad-hoc committees, collaborate on MMC strategic initiatives, and serve on peer review and search committees. The entire college community, from students to area residents, is richer as a result of their invaluable contributions.

The MMC Experience Is Enriched by Student Activities, Campus Organizations, and Internship Opportunities

Through internships and full-time jobs with high-profile firms and organizations, MMC students get hands-on experience in the subject areas. From the United Nations, NBC, Time Warner, and Christie's Auction House to Lenox Hill Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, MMC students get to take advantage of career advancement and internship opportunities.

Further enrichment comes from student clubs and organizations that enhance the educational experience beyond the classroom. There are over 40 groups in which students can get involved, from special-interest clubs to intramural sports or cultural organizations and honor societies.

Financial Aid Helps Make a Marymount Manhattan Education a Wise Investment

Any college-level education can be costly. MMC works with students to help make their education dreams into a reality. Through those efforts, over 85 percent of MMC students receive some form of financial aid. The college is a wise, affordable investment and prospective students can investigate a range of financial aid options that can defray educational expenses.

New York City's Rich Cultural, Educational, Artistic, and Entertainment Resources Complete a Balanced Education

With New York City being an international center of learning, entertainment, finance, and diplomacy, the city's rich cultural and creative resources become an extension of MMC for its students. From Broadway productions to small leading-edge galleries and from international cuisine to every style of music and dance, New York City is a veritable encyclopedia that opens additional chapters of learning and experience to the college's student body. MMC's central location makes all of the city's treasures easily accessible by car or public transit, and plenty of resources are available with just a walk or bike ride.
