Overview

MidAmerica Nazarene University Overview

MidAmerica Nazarene University is an independent Christian liberal arts university of about 1,800 students in the center of the U.S. The faith-based university welcomes students of all religious backgrounds with approximately 40% being Nazarene. Located in Olathe, Kansas, about 20 minutes from Kansas City, students enjoy all the cultural, social and employment benefits of the larger metropolitan area within the upscale suburban setting of the university.

MNU educates students for a life of purpose. With service-learning woven into coursework and university-sponsored opportunities to minister in the local community, students prepare not only for a career, but to make the world a better place.

MNU is home to about 1,340 undergraduate students. The average ACT score of incoming freshmen is 22.1; the average GPA is 3.32. Students hail from 36 states, five countries, and 40-plus denominations. The student to faculty ratio is 18:1. MidAmerica Nazarene University offers NAIA Division I baseball, cheerleading, football, men's and women's basketball and soccer; volleyball, and softball.

The university's most popular areas of study include business, accounting, nursing, teacher education, forensic chemistry and biology, criminal justice, music, ministry, and mass communications.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Career Preparation

MNU students receive direction from advisors in choosing a major, discovering their interests, finding a mentor, and preparation for interviews.

At MNU, hands-on learning and real-world experience are core components of students' education. For example, criminal justice majors learn in the university's own forensics lab, then intern for local police departments or laboratories. Communications students build public relations skills by helping non-profit organizations, and nursing majors train on the latest medical technology including state-of-the-art patient simulators.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Study Abroad

Whether students are looking to work with orphanages in Thailand, teach in the mountains of Honduras, or study in Egypt, the MidAmerica Nazarene University Global Studies Office helps them find programs that will take them just about anywhere. Servant leadership is talked about all over campus-- and lived out all over Olathe and Kansas City by individuals who decide to make a difference and by campus groups like MNU's Serving and Witnessing Action Teams and Students for Social Justice.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Academic Support

To ensure academic success, MNU provides extensive academic support services. Beyond the university's professors, students count on the staff at the Kresge Center to help them hone study and test-taking skills, teach time management, and provide free tutoring in any course.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Student Life

With intramural competition in everything from volleyball and soccer to four square and Uno, MidAmerica Nazarene University keeps up the friendly competition all year long. Students can also find professional and academic clubs for most majors.

The university helps its students discover themselves. MNU's nationally recognized faculty don't only know students' names; they know their stories. Students discover new possibilities for life and faith -- all while gaining incomparable experiences beyond the classroom.

Campus-wide events include those such as No-Shave November, Thrift Store Prom, MidAmerica Extreme, concerts, movies, games, plays, comedians, parties, cookouts, and coffeehouses.

Students also have MNU's alumni behind them -- and MidAmerica Nazarene University graduates work for major corporations such as Andersen Consulting, Bayer, Cerner, Garmin, Hallmark, Universal Press Syndicate, Sprint, Olathe Medical Center, and UPS.

A pioneering spirit, a passion to serve, and a purposeful life are the hallmarks of an MNU education. The university truly wants students to witness MNU's impact firsthand. It encourages potential students to check out the MidAmerica Nazarene University Web site, explore the MNU life, and plan to visit in person and see all that the MNU experience has to offer.
