Overview

MidAmerica Nazarene University Overview

MidAmerica Nazarene University is a Christian liberal arts university of about 1,800 students in the center of the U.S. A faith-based university, MNU welcomes students of all religious backgrounds; about 40% of the student body is Nazarene. Located in Olathe, Kansas, the school is only 20 minutes from downtown Kansas City. Students enjoy all the cultural, social and employment benefits of the larger metropolitan area within the upscale suburban setting of the university.

MNU educates students for a life of purpose. With service-learning woven into coursework and university-sponsored opportunities to minister in the local community, students prepare not only for a career, but to make the world a better place through servant-leadership.

The average ACT score of incoming freshmen is 22.1; the average GPA is 3.32. Students hail from 36 states, five countries, and 40-plus denominations. The student to faculty ratio is 23:1. MidAmerica Nazarene University offers NAIA Division I baseball, cheerleading, football, men's and women's basketball, track and field, and soccer; volleyball, and softball. Find out more about MNU Athletics at www.mnusports.com.

The university's most popular areas of study include business, accounting, nursing, teacher education, sociology, biology, criminal justice, music, ministry and multimedia.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Career Preparation

MNU students receive direction from advisors in choosing a major, discovering their interests, mapping a course of study and preparation for life after graduation.

MNU's Executive Mentoring Program pairs seniors with business professionals who advise and provide networking opportunities to assist in the job search.

At MNU, hands-on learning and real-world experience are core components of students' education. For example, criminal justice majors learn in the university's own forensics lab, then intern for local police departments or laboratories. Corporate communication students build public relations skills by organizing an event for a local non-profit organization, and nursing majors train on the latest medical technology including state-of-the-art patient simulators and in local hospitals and clinics.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Study Abroad

MNU Europe is the University's international program. Students travel to, live and study in Busingen, Germany, a quaint European village with a small college campus. Courses may last a few weeks to an entire semester. Courses are taught by MNU professors and adjuncts in a variety of subjects, fulfilling both general education and major requirements.

As a member of the Council for Christian College and Universities (CCCU), MNU makes a number of off-campus learning opportunities available. Students have studied abroad in China, Costa Rica, Egypt, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom through this co-op program. Domestic programs are available in Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Martha's Vineyard and many more.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Academic Support

To ensure academic success, MNU provides extensive academic support services. Beyond the university's professors, students count on the staff at the Kresge Academic Support Center to help them hone study and test-taking skills, teach time management and provide free tutoring in any course.

As a student at MNU, you'll be assigned an academic advisor from your field of study who can help create your custom plan of study to finish your degree on time.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Student Life

With intramural competition in everything from volleyball and soccer to tennis and powderpuff, MidAmerica Nazarene University keeps up the friendly competition all year long. MNU's varsity athletic teams are well-known for success on the field and court as well, with over 35 regular season championship titles to their name.

Campus-wide events include those such as Paint Wars, Thrift Store Prom, White Light Event, Movie-on-the-Mall, Homecoming Hoedown, chapel, concerts and theatrical productions,

Students also have MNU's alumni behind them -- and MidAmerica Nazarene University graduates work for major corporations such as Twitter, Bayer, Cerner, Garmin, Hallmark, Universal Press Syndicate, Sprint, Olathe Medical Center and UPS.

A pioneering spirit, a passion to serve, and a purposeful life are the hallmarks of an MNU education. The university truly wants students to witness MNU's impact firsthand. It encourages potential students to check out the MidAmerica Nazarene University website, explore the MNU life, and plan to visit in person and see all that the MNU experience has to offer.
