Overview

Cairn University

Cairn University exists to educate students to serve Christ in the church, society, and the world as biblically minded, well-educated, and professionally competent men and women of character. The University purposes to impart to its students a proper knowledge of God, themselves, and the world in which they live. Cairn offers over 50 programs and a broad range of academic opportunities to form the skills, habits, and worldview necessary for students to live out their faith and succeed at their work. Performing arts, athletics, mission trips, and campus events provide for a dynamic campus life that enriches the Cairn experience.

Centered on Christ and the Word

With a commitment to biblical Christianity at its core, Cairn offers a university experience that imparts to students the importance of biblical integration into every area of life and study. Students are encouraged to exercise biblical wisdom and serve Christ and others with humility and skill.

Academic Breadth and Quality

Diverse and rigorous academics at Cairn challenge students to become skilled professionals whose biblical worldview permeates their vocational activity. Cairn offers undergraduate degrees in business, Education, Music, Social Work, History, English, Liberal Arts, and Bible. Within those degree offerings students have over 50 program options which they can use to specialize in a particular area of professional preparation. Faculty are scholars and professionals in their fields and are able to offer students unique insights into their subject area within the framework of a biblical worldview. Internship and service opportunities in their area of study give students hands-on experience and professional preparation.

Campus educational facilities in the Biblical Learning Center provide technologically equipped smart classrooms, and the Masland Library gives students access to information, materials, and services that are integral to the instructional, research, and community service activities of the University. The library provides a varied collection of research materials, circulating books, CDs, DVDs, and online databases.

A Reputation for Success

Students at Cairn are made ready, not only for the careers they are pursuing, but for a life of service to Christ in the church, society, and the world. Graduates of Cairn work in a broad variety of professional fields. They are scholars, teachers, business leaders, entrepreneurs, missionaries, attorneys, doctors, tradesmen, pastors, college presidents, social workers, counselors, public servants, composers, performers, and writers.

An Engaging Environment

Students at Cairn are involved from their first semester in local and global service. Internships, field experiences, service projects, international trips, and weekly service in the community all work together to shape the student experience. Faculty at Cairn are invested in the lives of their students, participating with them in the community life of the University and learning through experiences in and outside of the classroom. The University as a whole engages with the local and regional community by hosting and presenting conferences, concerts, and performances.

Vibrant Campus Life

Cairn's campus, in Langhorne Manor, PA, is just 30 minutes from Center City Philadelphia, offering students suburban residence and urban access. Resident students live in one of three residence communities equipped with suite-style rooms, individual rooms, or apartments. The Resident Life Teams of staff and student leaders provide care, guidance, and activities for resident students.

Competitive intercollegiate athletics offer every member of the campus community an opportunity for participation -- either as athletes competing on one of the six men's and women's teams or as fans cheering on their peers at games. Playing in both NCAA Division III and NCCAA Division II, the Highlanders compete in the Colonial States Athletic Conference for men's basketball, cross country, soccer, golf, and baseball, and women's basketball, cross country, softball, tennis, volleyball, and soccer. Men's volleyball competes in the Continental Volleyball Conference. Many students are also involved in one of the many intramural sports options on campus.

Student groups and organizations allow the diverse student body to pursue their individual interests with others who share them. Student organizations include Student Senate, the Milestone yearbook, The Scroll student newspaper, the Culture and Arts Association, Mu Kappa, Student Missionary Fellowship, Commuter Council, Student Theological Society, Beauty in Black and White (Poetry Club), student Chaplains, Ascend (Outdoors Club), Alpha Chi Epsilon (Teacher Education Club), Enactus, Music Department (participating in CMENC), Chi Beta Sigma (Social Work Club), as well as Class Councils.

From the beginning of their time at Cairn, students are involved in the local community through ministry service assignments. Many students choose a ministry that will give them experience in their field of study or will benefit their professional goals. Students serve in local churches through music, teaching, youth and children's ministries, and other areas. They also serve in the community in nursing facilities, tutoring centers, homeless shelters, after school programs, and schools.
