Overview

Academic Vision Incorporates the Ministry of the Catholic Church

Saint Xavier is an officially recognized ministry of the Catholic Church, and as such, its central activities of teaching, learning, scholarship, and service are grounded in traditional Catholic theological principles.

Saint Xavier challenges students to search for truth through careful observation, critical analysis, vigorous debate, theological reflection, and ethical decision-making that incorporates respect for the inherent dignity of others. The university encourages students to become familiar with the richness of the Catholic intellectual tradition and the imperatives of Catholic social teaching, while also welcoming input and participation from other religious and non-religious communities.

Commitment and Cooperation in a Strong, Comprehensive, Diverse General Education Program

Saint Xavier University offers challenging academic programs that are characterized by a strong sense of cooperation among faculty, students, staff, administration, and members of the community. SXU is committed to providing outstanding course work, resources, and instructional facilities that support excellence in teaching and learning.

Faculty members develop and teach courses in their respective areas of advanced study, extend research in their disciplines, and produce scholarly and creative work that serves the university and the community. This community of shared concern for successful teaching and learning is infused by the distinctive qualities and values of Saint Xavier.

Students are provided with a wide range of course work, community experiences, co-curricular activities, and support services that support and enhance learning at all levels. The university seeks to develop excellence in students of diverse talents, experiences, knowledge, interests, and cultures.

A Diverse Variety of Academics for a Diverse and Talented Student Body

Saint Xavier University offers students a wide variety of high-quality academic programs through the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as the Schools of Education, Nursing, and the Graham School of Management. The SXU School for Continuing and Professional Studies features programs and services specifically tailored to the unique needs of adult learners.

The university also sponsors enrichment opportunities such as international education, on-campus clinics, campus program development, and opportunities for public discourse. By providing a wealth of academic offerings, USX provides students with a solid foundation in liberal arts and professional education, thereby helping them to become well-rounded members of society.

Activities and Organizations Invite Students to Become Involved

Saint Xavier University sponsors numerous activities and events in conjunction with campus life. Events are designed to appeal to a wide variety of interests and are subsidized by the university's Student Activity Fund (SAF), which is created from fees included with student tuition.

The Activity Fund provides for major campus speakers, off-campus trips, student organization activities, multicultural nights, cultural heritage months, theater productions, and much more.

Student participation is always welcomed in campus life events and activities, and guests are generally allowed. Students can learn about upcoming events by signing up to receive e-mail alerts, or by checking the flyers and bulletin boards on campus.

Special Support Services Help Meet the Needs of Students

The Learning and Disability Services (LCDS) office is the central source for academic support for students at Saint Xavier University. The LCDS office is available to provide assistance when a student wants to know more about a new subject, is having trouble understanding or mastering course content, or needs assistance with an assignment.

Students can participate in academic skills workshops, strategy and skills instruction, and tutoring services in a quiet, distraction-reduced environment for study and learning. Expert tutoring and academic assistance is provided free of charge to currently enrolled students. The LCDS office also coordinates all services for students with disabilities.
