Eighteen Majors in the Liberal Arts
The College of Arts and Sciences at Shenandoah University offers 18 undergraduate majors and 24 minor areas of study. Classes use an individualized approach and an emphasis on global diversity to best help students meet their professional goals.
Natural science majors are available in the areas of biology, chemistry, environmental studies, and mathematics. Social science majors include American studies, criminal justice, kinesiology, nursing, political science, psychology, respiratory care, and sociology. Humanities majors include business, English, history, mass communications, religion, Spanish, and university studies.
More than 30 Degrees Are Available at Shenandoah Conservatory
Shenandoah Conservatory was founded over 135 years ago as Virginia's first flagship music school. Today, the conservatory offers more than 30 specialized undergraduate degrees across the fields of performing arts, including in the areas of jazz studies, music education, arts management, music therapy, dance, theater stage management, and composition.
The conservatory's programs are known for their unusually low student-to-teacher ratio, which contributes to students' development professionally, artistically, and intellectually.
Facilities and equipment include a state-of-the-art recording studio, MIDI studio, 2 digital piano labs, 48 practice rooms, 5 performance stages, scene shop, and costume shop. Students enjoy dozens of ensemble opportunities which make up part of the conservatory's more than 400 performances each year.
Conservatory applicants each complete an audition process. Alumni of the conservatory have performed at La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, and other prestigious venues.
Four Entry Points into Nursing Program
Shenandoah University offers 4 entry points for earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Depending on their needs, students may pursue a traditional 4-year, transfer, RN to BSN, or accelerated 2nd-degree program.
Shenandoah's BSN program offers innovative curriculum with rigorous academic standards. Small, personalized classes are taught by highly skilled faculty members who are known nationally and internationally for their contributions to the field.
Students practice complex patient care in state-of-the-art simulation laboratories. Access to high-tech simulation mannequins in the classroom and clinical placements in the field allow students to perfect their decision-making skills in a wide range of patient care scenarios.
Students also enjoy the benefits of collaborative relationships with several regional hospitals, including access to lab space at Winchester Medical Center and in a former hospital building in downtown Winchester.
AACSB International Accredited Bachelor of Business Administration Degree
Shenandoah University's Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business (Byrd School) offers the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in the fields of accounting, economics, finance, global business, information systems technology, marketing, and supply chain management.
The Byrd School carries accreditation from AACSB International, a position achieved by less than 5 percent of business schools in the world. The school's faculty members are industry leaders with advanced degrees who guide small classes in career-oriented study that combines business education, decision making, and entrepreneurship. The BBA program is designed to address 4 core values: continuous improvement, integrity, learning, and recognizing the contributions of others.
Student can personalize their degree programs and educational experiences. Minor fields of study are available in entrepreneurship and economics, in addition to over 20 options outside the business school. Hands-on domestic and international internships offer students gateways to the world of business. The Alumni Mentorship Program (AMP) encourages professional development and aids students transitioning into careers.
Financial Aid Opportunities at Shenandoah University
Shenandoah University offers several types of financial aid to support its student body. More than 85 percent of students receive some form of financial aid.
Each year, Shenandoah awards 15 Presidential Scholarships to high-achieving freshman students. Talent scholarships for students admitted to Shenandoah Conservatory are also available for those who qualify. Additional scholarships and grants include the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG) for state residents and the Virginia United Methodist Scholarship for church members or children of ordained United Methodist ministers.
