Overview

Susquehanna University Academics

Susquehanna offers more than 50 majors and minors, and a fine balance of liberal arts and professional studies, a devoted and passionate faculty, and state-of-the-art facilities that support students' intellectual and personal growth. Susquehanna University distinguishes itself from other Pennsylvania universities by capitalizing on its ideal size by keeping classes small, which ensures personal attention to students from professors.

Faculty and students collaborate on research, perform together on stage, make presentations together at academic conferences, and share a passion for the world of ideas. Susquehanna University students take courses in any of the university's three schools: the School of Arts, Humanities, and Communications; the School of Natural and Social Sciences; and the Sigmund Weis School of Business.

The Weis school is among a select group amidst Pennsylvania universities (and nationally) that is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The music program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASOM).

Susquehanna University's Central Curriculum includes a unique Global Opportunities (GO) program. GO is a distinctive requirement originating from the faculty's recognition that now, more than ever, graduates must be ready to navigate increasingly complex domestic and global challenges. Every undergraduate prepares, completes, and reflects on a long- or short-term cross-cultural experience either in the United States or abroad. With GO, students transform powerful off-campus experiences into profound discovery and personal growth.

Susquehanna University Campus

The last 10 years have witnessed tremendous growth at Susquehanna, and the expansion of facilities to accommodate that growth. To stay competitive among Pennsylvania universities, new residence halls were constructed to comfortably meet the needs of students, and academic buildings were updated, improved, and expanded.

A new science building, slated for full-occupancy in the fall of 2010, will be the largest academic building on campus at an impressive 75,000 square feet. This $33 million, state-of-the-art project will meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification criteria and offer 19 teaching and research labs, 30 preparatory and support spaces, and a rooftop greenhouse. Home to the biology, chemistry, and earth and environmental sciences programs, the building demonstrates Susquehanna University's commitment to a sustainable future.

The Susquehanna University Experience

With a deep-rooted commitment to the intellectual, personal, and professional growth of every student, Susquehanna University offers its students a rich collegiate experience that is rare among Pennsylvania universities.

Outside the classroom, students can choose from more than 120 student organizations and co-curricular activities, collaborative research, service learning, internships, student leadership opportunities, 23 Division III sports, off-campus semester study opportunities, and study abroad offerings on all seven continents.

Through all of these experiences, Susquehanna University mentors will work with students to stretch themselves to reach full potential. Beyond the classroom, students find that Susquehanna University is inclusive and increasingly diverse among Pennsylvania universities, and is a place where students and teachers enjoy great relationships and work together to shape campus life.

Susquehanna University Helps Students Succeed

Susquehanna University's promise of success is demonstrated by its graduation rate; 80 percent of its students graduate within four years, a rate cited among the top in the nation, and far above the national average. Ninety-two percent of Susquehanna's graduates have a job or are attending graduate school within six months of graduation.

Susquehanna University graduates consistently tell their mentors that they have had a competitive edge entering the workplace, thanks to the experiences the university provided them. Most Susquehanna University students engage in one or more experiential activities before graduation. Students interested in pursuing law and medical careers can also take advantage of special preparation offered by the university for their respective entrance exams.
