Incorporated in 1901 as Girl's Industrial College, Texas Woman's University has grown over the decades to become one of the largest universities in the United States dedicated to women's education. Men have been admitted to TWU since 1972 but make up only 15 percent of the student complement.
Texas Woman's University has many academic accolades, particularly in the field of nursing and health sciences. Ranked as one of the top universities in the state, TWU produces more nursing and occupational therapy graduates than any other university in Texas. In addition, TWU is the only university in Texas to offer an undergraduate degree in adapted physical education.
The College of Professional Education graduates more than four hundred and fifty new teachers each year, and students have been recorded as achieving a 98 percent pass rate in state examinations.

Single students under the age of 21 are required to reside on campus unless they live with family in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth commuting area. At TWU some of the most popular undergraduate majors are nursing, dance, physical therapy, teacher education, pre-professional law, and pre-professional medicine. The average class size is 25 students, and with a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1, students benefit from personalized attention and quality instruction. Students who achieve a high grade point average can apply to enroll in TWU's honors program.
The study abroad program provides students with the opportunity to earn credits while continuing to live and study in a foreign country for a period of time.

The 18-hole golf course and the tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts also provide alternative recreational sporting pursuits.

Students at Texas Woman's University Enjoy the Beautiful Gardens and Historic Buildings of the Denton Campus
The university has a main campus in Denton that is made up of many diverse and architecturally beautiful buildings. The landscaped gardens and park-like setting provide a wonderful study environment. Many students past and present choose to have their weddings in the quaint "Little Chapel in the Woods." Built in 1939 and dedicated by Eleanor Roosevelt, it is a historic landmark. The chapel's beautiful stained glass windows, art work, and woodwork were designed and created by TWU students.
The Old Main Building was built in 1903 and was one of the first on campus. In its portico you can see a replica of the "Winged Victory" statue, the original of which is housed in the Louvre museum in Paris. The department of visual arts has an east and west wing dedicated to showcasing the university's artistic talent. The galleries are also used to house established artist exhibitions each year.
