Location

The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur is located on the eastern side of the greater Atlanta area. A short drive or MARTA ride from downtown, Decatur is where traditional small-town atmosphere meets the college-town sophistication and excitement--along with all the benefits of being right in the center of a major metropolis.

Decatur has many unique shops, fashion boutiques, theaters, galleries, and businesses focused on creative industries, and restaurants that range from casual to gourmet dining. Most are within walking distance of campus, as are the annual Decatur Arts Festival and the Decatur Book Festival.

Of course, nearby Atlanta has its own attractions. Known as the capital of the New South, it's the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Jr., a major force in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, host city of a Summer Olympics, and a forward-looking city of industrious, innovative, and creative people. This is a vibrant, exciting city where tree-lined neighborhoods are just minutes away from high-rise condos and skyscrapers housing Fortune 500 companies.

Atlanta's thriving business environment includes high-tech companies, such as Earthlink, as well as corporate giants like Coca-Cola, CNN-Time Warner, Delta Air Lines, AT&T, and Georgia Pacific.

Atlanta's performing arts district is located in the midtown area at the Woodruff Arts Center. The city is home to some of the country's most important art museums and institutions, including the renowned High Museum of Art, one of the most-visited of its kind anywhere in the world, and the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA), the only design museum in the southeast. Students can explore contemporary art museums like the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia.

Students also have access to a wide range of professional sports. Those who are into baseball can take in a Braves game at Turner Field. Football? The NFL's Falcons play at the Georgia Dome. For basketball fans, the Hawks of the NBA and the Dream of the WNBA both play hoops at Philips Arena.
