Accreditation and Licensing

A growing and exciting "edge city," Northwest Houston is coming into its own as a center for the visual and performing arts, education, shopping, and recreation. At The Art Institute of Houston-North, students are just minutes from the heart of downtown Houston yet close to lakes and streams, forested parks, quiet neighborhoods, and people who value quality of life and community.

The area boasts a mild, semi-tropical climate with sunny beaches nearby. A fine arts mecca, Houston is home to several major art museums, a premiere opera, ballet and symphony, and live theater companies. Culturally diverse, there are several international ethnic communities. There are great restaurants, an eclectic nightlife, and everything else one would expect from one of the most talked-about cities in the nation and the world.

A 17-block area in the middle of downtown composes the Theater District, with the Bayou Place entertainment complex, along with restaurants, movie theaters, live music venues, plazas, and parks. The Bayou Music Center offers live concerts, stage plays, and stand-up comedy.

Space Center Houston is the official visitors' center of NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, which offers interactive exhibits including moon rocks and a shuttle simulator. The Galleria is the biggest shopping mall in Texas and is located in the Uptown District. Other attractions in Houston include Old Market Square, the Downtown Aquarium, and Sam Houston Race Park. The city's cultural diversity is evident in Chinatown and the Mahatma Gandhi District.

Houston has over 300 parks; one of them, Hermann Park, includes the Houston Zoo and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Of America's 10 biggest cities, Houston is number one in terms of space set aside for parks and green space. And a recent study of the fifty largest U.S. cities by Walk Score ranked Houston the 23rd most walkable.

As for ballparks, the Houston Astros play baseball at Minute Maid Park, the NFL's Texans take on the competition at NRG Stadium, and the Rockets of the NBA play basketball at Toyota Center.
