Location

Jacksonville is big. Not just in Florida, where it's the most populous city, but in the whole United States, where it occupies the most real estate of any city--enough to encompass more than 500 distinct neighborhoods. It's also a city big enough to offer just about anything for students pursuing a creative education, from music to museums, art to architecture, and shops to shorelines. The Art Institute of Jacksonville puts it all within easy reach.

The downtown Jacksonville Jazz Festival is the second-biggest jazz festival in the United States; Springing the Blues is one of the oldest and largest blues festivals; the World of Nations features events, cuisines, and souvenirs from around the globe; and the Jacksonville Film Festival serves up a wide range of independent films, documentaries, and shorts.

Jacksonville Landing, a popular riverfront dining and shopping area, and the Jacksonville Riverwalks are in the center of the city. The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville features eclectic exhibits along with a collection of over 700 works.

In addition to places to shop and places to eat, Jacksonville is big on undeveloped green spaces. There are miles of white sandy beaches to explore, and places for hiking, camping, sports, and recreation. The city boasts the largest urban park system in the U.S.--over 80,000 acres spread across more than 337 locations, including the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail, a long narrow park that travels nearly 15 miles. St. Johns River Park, also known as Friendship Park, is the site of Friendship Fountain, one of the most famous spots in Jacksonville and, at the time it was built, the world's tallest and largest fountain. There are plentiful sites to boat, swim, fish, sail, jet ski, surf, or water ski.

The annual Gate River Run is the largest 15k race in the country, drawing over 13,000 runners, spectators, and volunteers. College football's Gator Bowl is held in the city every New Year's Day. And there's pro football too--the Jacksonville Jaguars play at EverBank Field.

Among the major corporations that call Jacksonville home are four Fortune 500 companies: CSX Corporation, Fidelity National Financial, Fidelity National Information Services, and Winn--Dixie Stores, Inc.
