Academic Programs

No matter which course of study a student may choose, the professionals at The Art Institute of New York City will guide, support, and help each student as their talents evolve on their journey of personal and professional transformation. Students studying design learn to fine-tune their visual thinking and problem-solving skills, as they create everything from logos to TV ads. Programs in the area of media arts focus on utilizing technology to deliver information and entertainment, while students studying fashion learn to design clothes for the runway or run a retail shop.

Associate degree programs are offered in digital filmmaking, fashion design, fashion merchandising and marketing, graphic design, interior design, and Web design and interactive media.

Student Activities

There are several events for students throughout the year that celebrate culture, health, and holidays. The Student Activities Office also provides shape-up and wellness programs for students, along with The Art Institute of New York City Celebrates Women program. Students are offered many opportunities to volunteer throughout the year. Culinary students work at various events throughout the city as well as open-house programs at the school.

Facilities and Resources

The Art Institute of New York City provides a learning environment with professional-grade technology applicable to each student's course of study. Students have the opportunity to build a portfolio of work that shows potential employers that they are trained to use the software, hardware, or equipment utilized within the industry. Depending upon the course of study, students are immersed in a creative environment--from classrooms to computer labs to studios--focused on relevant, hands-on education designed to prepare students for the real world. The school contains computer labs, drawing studios, a student bookstore, and an art gallery.

The Art Institute of New York City is located in the SoHo/Tribeca district of New York City. Admission Requirements

Applicants must complete an application form and write a 150-word essay to apply for admission to The Art Institute of New York City. A personal interview with an admissions representative is required. Applicants must provide official high school transcripts, proof of successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, or transcripts from any college previously attended. There is a $50 application fee.
