Location

The Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham is located in the heart of the downtown Durham historical and entertainment district. Events include jazz festivals, blues festivals, symphony concerts, art exhibitions, and all kinds of cultural happenings, such as the American Dance Festival and the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. The Carolina Theater offers live performances and independent films. The Nasher Museum of Art is nationally known for its traveling exhibitions of contemporary global art. The city's Ninth Street, Brightleaf, and University Drive areas are great places to find something delicious to eat.

The Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham is just 2 hours from the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean; 4 hours from the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains; and not far at all from Charlotte, North Carolina; Richmond, Virginia; and Washington, D.C.

It's also just a stone's throw from Raleigh, where there's a wide assortment of things to see and do. The North Carolina Museum of Art houses one of the finest collections of American, European, and ancient art in the region. There are also numerous art galleries. The city features over 8,000 acres of green space, more than 100 tennis courts, and five public lakes. Most public buses have bicycle racks, and some roads have dedicated bicycle-only lanes. Raleigh has been designated a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists, and the Walk Score ranks Raleigh among the most walkable U.S. cities.

For the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL, home ice is PNC Arena in Raleigh. Baseball fans enjoy watching the Durham Bulls, the minor-league baseball team made famous by the film "Bull Durham," play in Durham Bulls Athletic Park, where they draw major crowds.
