Location

Water, mountains, culture, music, commerce--and, of course, coffee and computers. Seattle, a thriving, forward-thinking, sophisticated city in the shadow of majestic Mount Rainier, is an international port on beautiful Puget Sound that offers the finest in arts and entertainment.

The Art Institute of Seattle is situated on the city's Elliott Bay waterfront, just a few blocks from the Belltown neighborhood and its vibrant restaurants and nightlife, and not far from the famous Pike Place Market, the Olympic Sculpture Park, and other interesting attractions.

Seattle boasts a calendar full of cultural events. From the 25-day Seattle International Film Festival to Seattle Hempfest, to book fairs, concerts featuring a diverse range of alternative music, performance poetry, and an abundance of art galleries and artists' studios that are open to the public, there's a wide variety of things to see and do in this city.

As for professional sports, Seattle has them covered with baseball's Mariners and the NFL's Seahawks, along with soccer, ice hockey, and women's basketball teams.

In addition, there are museums, covering everything from Asian culture to maritime history to rock `n roll. The iconic Space Needle adds a unique feature to the city skyline. Along with the abundance and variety of fresh seafood and local produce, Seattle has earned a spot as one of the country's true culinary capitals.

The Seattle area is home to an array of globally recognized companies. While Starbucks and Microsoft call Seattle home, the city's other corporate residents include the headquarters of Amazon, RealNetworks, Getty Images, Corbis, Cray, Sur La Table, Penny Arcade, Tommy Bahama, Nordstrom, Brooks Running, and Fantagraphics Books, as well as offices of Adobe, Facebook, and Google.
