Location

The Art Institute of Wisconsin is located in the center of Milwaukee, the largest city in the state. Milwaukee is known for its large German population, its many breweries, and its neighborhood brewpubs. But Milwaukee is also home to a large number of cultural, art, music, and food festivals, along with a wide range of museums, performing arts venues, gardens, and parks. Summerfest, an event that's held every late June through early July in Milwaukee, is one of the world's largest music festivals.

Milwaukee serves as the corporate headquarters for more than a dozen Fortune 1000 companies. Recently, five companies in the area were selected as leaders in their respective fields as part of Fortune magazine's "World's Most Admired Companies." Milwaukee was also recently ranked by Forbes as the fourth-best city in America for commuters. Also known as the setting for the television shows "Happy Days" and "Laverne and Shirley" in the 1970s and 1980s, Milwaukee is a fascinating mix of the traditional and contemporary for students who are looking an education in the creative and applied arts.

The city also offers the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Haggerty Museum of Art, the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum, the Charles Allis Art Museum, the William F. Eisner Museum of Advertising & Design--and even a museum dedicated to Harley Davidson motorcycles. Milwaukee also has one of the highest per-capita student populations in all of North America.

In Milwaukee, there are plenty of opportunities to cheer on local teams. Baseball's Milwaukee Brewers play under the retractable roof of Miller Park, the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks at Bradley Center, and the legendary Green Bay Packers' stadium, Lambeau Field, is just a few hours' drive north. Milwaukee is a genuine American city that offers a little bit of everything--and a lot of what many students are seeking.
