Overview

The College of Westchester - CW Inspires Success

The great power of The College of Westchester comes from its small college environment and its dedicated, caring professors and staff members. CW gives students the opportunity to develop marketable, specialized skills, so as to inspire the drive to success within them to create their dream careers.

With its unique mission and student-centered environment, CW has assisted thousands of graduates while simultaneously serving the Westchester community. CW works with its Board of Trustees and College Advisory Council to keep current with what employers demand and to provide top facilities, technology, and qualified faculty members and staff members.

General education courses are offered to help students develop communication, critical thinking, social, and organizational skills. Along with a wide choice of exciting business, computer, and medical offerings, students can learn how to use their talents and meet their aspirations.

Academic Programs

Bachelor's and associate degree areas include: business administration, accounting, management, marketing, digital media, health information management, medical assisting, and computer networking. Additionally, CW is a Cisco Networking Academy.

Scholarships

The College of Westchester is committed to helping students explore the many ways to make college affordable. Our helpful financial assistance counselors are available to meet with students and their parents to explain the financial aid process and to describe the various programs available to finance education. Federal and state government financial aid is available if the student qualifies. Each year CW offers a great variety of scholarships, institutional grants, and awards to students.

CW Career Placement Services

Regardless of the majors that students pursue at CW, the college's Career Placement Services team works closely with faculty members to train those students on proven interviewing techniques, résumé-writing principles, and all other aspects of a job search to help students take advantage of career opportunities provided by outstanding corporations and businesses in the area.

The Office of Career Services offers the following assistance with the steps toward employment:

- Organizing a network

- Engineering an efficient job search

- Investigating job, application, and hiring procedures

- Researching prospective employers

- OptimalResume.com.

On-campus recruitment

Area companies attend full-time and part-time career fairs on campus to meet available candidates, and conduct on-site interviews to fill open job opportunities in their companies.

Career Classified

A monthly newsletter published by the Office of Career Services for active students seeking placement through the Office of Career Services.

Portfolio Review Day

An annual event specifically designed for the Digital Media program. It allows students to showcase their artwork to future employers. The event is set up as a "gallery walk" in which employers review and comment on each student's work.

Career Café

Employers from around the area join students and answer their questions in an informal, conversation-style setting. Students go from table to table, spending 10-15 minutes with each employer. It is something between a panel discussion and a speed interview -- a great chance for a student to meet with an employer specific to his or her major.

Student Satisfaction

The College of Westchester measures overall student satisfaction once a year based upon the nationally recognized Noel Levitz Student Satisfaction Survey. In 2012 the overall student satisfaction rate was 84.3%. In addition, the college significantly out-performed a composite benchmark of both national and regional colleges on this survey. The national rate was 79.50%, and the regional rate was 78.41%.

Academic Advising

The College of Westchester vigorously supports a strong academic advising program. Students meet with their academic advisers regularly to discuss their schedules, their academic progress, and any other concerns or questions about achieving goals and success at CW.

The Learning Center

One-on-one tutoring is conducted by professional academic tutors and peer tutors. Online tools are also available.

Student Activities

At CW, over half the day college student population directly participates in selecting, planning and implementing social and cultural events through 16 different clubs and groups.

The Counseling Center

The Counseling Center is the place students can go to discuss personal issues. Services are free and include individual counseling, group counseling and referrals to local resources. The Center is operated by mental health professionals.

Stay Connected

Anytime or anywhere students can stay connected with courses, professors and classmates. CW's student portal and web-enhanced course tools provide students with online information, course content, assignments, resources, and chat. Also, with CW's wireless network, students can use their laptops and stay connected wherever they are on campus.

Student Success Coaching

Each new student is assigned a Student Success Coach, a trained professional, who oversees the student's success and progress at CW. The student success coach meets with each student several times per semester in group settings and in one-on-one meetings.
