The University of Lethbridge -- Nationally Recognized for Research Achievements

Founded in 1967 on the principles of liberal education, the University of Lethbridge (U of L) is a nationally recognized research-centered university. World-class facilities include the latest technology and equipment in each of the campus's teaching spaces, labs, and study areas. The university has experienced significant growth in the last decade, but remains dedicated to student-focused education and personalized, interactive learning environments.

U of L offers more than 150 undergraduate and graduate degrees and programs in education, fine arts, health sciences, humanities, management, nursing, sciences, and social sciences. Additional campus locations exist in Calgary and Edmonton, and students may complete their degrees at any or all locations.

High Rankings in Research and Academics

The University of Lethbridge is widely recognized for its achievements in research and education. "Research Infosource" has named the school Research University of the Year in its undergraduate category for U of L's commitment to research and innovation. The group also named the university 3rd in the nation for research growth and 32nd in overall research funding. "MacLean's Magazine" has also named the University of Lethbridge among their top 3 Canadian Universities.

The Faculty of Management at U of L

The faculty members in the management program at U of L are national leaders in management education. Since 1975, they have offered comprehensive programs designed to develop scholars and principled leaders with a global worldview. The faculty's theory-into-practice program is the first of its kind in Canada and is designed to provide students with professional insight that will serve as a competitive advantage upon graduation.

Through early exposure of the professional development process, students will develop the knowledge, opportunities, and confidence to succeed, as well as to provide value for continued professional development. Educators in the faculty of management are active and accomplished researchers, as well as dedicated and inspired educators.

Management students have access to technologically sophisticated facilities. The faculty has established 3 centers dedicated to supporting research in specific areas: the Centre for Financial Market Research and Teaching (trading room), the Centre for Socially Responsible Marketing, and the Small Business Institute. Management alumni have taken positions in business, government, and nonprofits that allow them to make a difference and give back to their communities.

Undergraduate Programs from the Faculty of Management

The Faculty of Management offers innovative programs and academic degrees in 11 undergraduate majors: accounting, computer science, economics, finance, First Nations governance, general management, human resource management and labour relations, information systems, international management, marketing, and political science. Programs emphasize communication, critical thinking, and analytic skills, and prepare graduates for leadership and management positions.

The Faculty of Management offers 5 combined degree programs, which allow students to combine management majors with another field in order to pursue management positions within a variety of interests and careers. U of L offers combined degrees in the following combinations: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Management (BA/BMgt), Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Management (BSc/BMgt), Bachelor of Fine Arts/Bachelor of Management (BFA/BMgt), Bachelor of Health Sciences/Bachelor of Management (BHSc/BMgt), and Bachelor of Management/Bachelor of Education (BMgt/BEd).

The school also offers 7 10-course certificate programs for current degree holders and working professionals in the following areas: finance, First Nations governance, general management, human resource management and labour relations, information systems, international management, and marketing. Students also have opportunities to participate in international learning opportunities or the extensive co-op program.

Master of Science in Management

The U of L offers a Master of Science in Management (MSc(Mgt)) for management, business, or commerce students interested in corporate or academic careers with a focus in research. Alumni of the program have been admitted into reputable doctoral programs, and have launched successful careers in business consulting, marketing research, and financial analysis.

Majors leading to the MSc(Mgt) degree include accounting, finance, human resource management and labour relations, information systems, international management, marketing, and policy and strategy. The degree can be completed full time in 24 months or part time in 48 months, at any of the U of L campuses.

Student Life at the University of Lethbridge

The University of Lethbridge is home to many notable facilities and features, including the recently constructed Markin Hall. The building includes state-of-the-art classrooms and videoconferencing capabilities, 18 group and individual study rooms, and Western Canada's first financial trading room. The Centre for Financial Market Research and Teaching (the "training room") is a 48-station facility that presents unique opportunities for students and corporate or community groups to develop hands-on experience in derivatives and equities trading and risk management.

Students also have access to many extracurricular cultural programs and opportunities, including over 40 productions per year from the University of Lethbridge Centre for the Arts. U of L also hosts the Ascent Climbing Centre, and a variety of intramural and club sports, including dodgeball, ice hockey, ultimate Frisbee, badminton, curling, and women's fastball.

Over 80 ratified student clubs and organizations provide opportunities for education, socialization, travel, and athletics. Examples include the U of L Medieval Club, Bioscience Journal Club, Management Students Society (MSS), and Headbangers Society. The campus also hosts CKXU Radio, a volunteer-run campus and community radio station, and the Meliorist campus newspaper, which has offered weekly services since the campus opened in 1967.

Financial Aid Opportunities at the University of Lethbridge

The financial aid office at the University of Lethbridge is dedicated to helping students make financial investments in their futures by completing their educations. A wide range of scholarships and bursaries are available, as well as part time work on campus or through the cooperative education program.

Each year, over $400,000 in funding is given to management students in scholarships and awards. Scholarships for new students include the India Student Scholarship, the Management Academic Achievement Scholarship, and Scholarship Fundraising Dinner awards. Continuing students may also be awarded the Make a Difference Scholarship for Outstanding Student Achievement in Management, and the Outstanding Achievement in Management Scholarship

Known as Alberta's Destination University, the University of Lethbridge sits on 490 acres in the small, prairie city of Lethbridge in southern Alberta, Canada. Located 2 hours from Calgary and 1 hour from the US border, the city straddles the Oldman River at the base of the Canadian Rockies.

Its scenic location offers students and residents a variety of quality recreational facilities, including over 70 local parks, playgrounds, and sports fields, and 140 km of walking and running trails. Many organizations contribute to the area's vibrant local arts and culture, including the Galt Museum, Bowman Arts Centre, and Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens.
