The University of Wisconsin-Platteville

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville provides an affordable, accessible, high quality education to more than 8,600 students from across the tri-state area and beyond.

As the fastest growing school in the University of Wisconsin system, the university has 41 majors, 77 minors, and 17 pre-professional programs that range across a broad spectrum of disciplines. Top programs include agriculture, biology, business, criminal justice, education, engineering and industrial technology. Unique offerings include forensic investigation, microsystems and nanotechnology, and sustainable and renewable energy systems.

Small classes that are taught by faculty encourage hands-on learning through research, internships, and study abroad programs. Students can also practice skills learned in the classroom and develop leadership capacity through involvement in over 200 active student clubs and organizations.

Agriculture

The School of Agriculture provides a supportive environment where students learn theory in the classroom and apply it to real world situations. For example, the school's Pioneer Farm gives students the opportunity to live and work on a farm where they gain hands-on agricultural experience.

Students may choose from several majors including agribusiness, agricultural education, and animal science. Ornamental science; reclamation, environment, and conservation; and soil and crop science are also majors.

Biology

The Department of Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville provides learning opportunities in the classroom and lab as well as through research projects and field trips.

It offers the comprehensive biology major with an area of emphasis or the biology major with individualized electives. Areas of interest include the following: biohealth/physiology, botany, cytotechnology, ecology, molecular/genetics, secondary education, and zoology.

The department also has a cadaver lab that biology students in pre-health programs use for observation and study.

Business

The Department of Business and Accounting prepares students for successful careers in the global business environment.

Business majors may choose from 1 of several areas of emphasis including finance, human resource management, management, and sales and marketing. Communications, international business, integrated supply chain management, and general business are also areas of emphasis.

Accounting majors acquire comprehensive education in the field including cost, financial, and management accounting. They also gain the knowledge needed to pass the certified management accountant and certified public accountant examinations.

Criminal Justice

The Criminal Justice Department offers B.S. and B.A. degree programs in criminal justice and a B.S. degree program in forensic investigation. It also has a nationally recognized internship program.

The criminal justice program, which can be completed online, focuses on the administration of justice within American society.

The forensic investigation program trains students in investigative methods and crime-scene processing including crime-scene mapping, fingerprint identification, forensic photography, and legal aspects.

Education

The School of Education prepares students for licensure to teach in pre, elementary, middle, and secondary schools. Students may choose from the following programs: elementary (birth to 11), middle level (11 to 14), secondary (10 to 21), wide range (birth to 21), and physical education.

Engineering

The College of EMS has ABET-accredited programs in civil, electrical, environmental, industrial, mechanical, and software engineering as well as engineering physics.

It also offers a major in microsystems and nanomaterials and a general engineering program that prepares students for 1 of the professional programs.

Furthermore, the college provides more than 30 specialized engineering labs that allow students to acquire practical experience in their chosen specialties.

Industrial Technology

The Department of Industrial Studies offers a degree program in industrial technology management that includes theoretical, technological, and hands-on training.

The program has areas of emphasis in building construction management, building construction safety management, manufacturing technology management, and occupational safety management.

Undergraduate Research at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors at UW-Platteville cultivates a culture of creativity and supports student-faculty member research. It also hosts an annual symposium that allows students to present their research to the larger community. Additionally, the university awards Undergraduate Research Fellowships that help fund students' research.

Financial Aid at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville

UW-Platteville participates in federal grant, loan, and work study programs. It also awards scholarships, offers non-work study employment, and provides textbook rental that is covered in the tuition. Additional funding programs are available for veterans and students with disabilities and tuition savings programs for students in Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota.

UW-Platteville provides a supportive, resource-abundant environment where students can choose from more than 200 student organizations, participate in student government, and join sororities and fraternities.

UW-Platteville offers a full range of academic resources including advising and career exploration, career services, First Year Experience, Student Support Services, and writing and tutoring resources.

Additionally, the university provides services that meet students' diverse needs such as International Student Scholar Services, Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, Services for Students with Disabilities, and the Patricia A. Doyle Women's Center.
