About the University of Wisconsin-Stout

Established in 1891, the University of Wisconsin-Stout is a polytechnic university that closely collaborates with business, industry, and other educational institutions to help students achieve academic and career success. It offers to more than 8,000 students 44 innovative undergraduate majors, 145 organizations, 16 intercollegiate sports teams, and 26 club sports, as well as an extensive recreational sports program.

Located in Menomonie, Wisconsin, the university's picturesque and historic campus is within the midst of the state's natural beauty. The area provides access to a variety of year-round recreational options.

Furthermore, the university is in close proximity to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and it is 340 miles from Chicago, Illinois. Tuition Assistance at the University of Wisconsin-Stout

Tuition at the University of Wisconsin-Stout includes a laptop computer, software, and comprehensive technical support. The university also has a book rental system that reduces the costs of books.

In addition, the Stout Foundation Scholarship provides scholarships to students based on financial need and merit.

Furthermore, the university has reduced tuition arrangements with the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, and North Dakota.

Programs in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS)

The CAHSS offers several bachelor degrees including a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Applied Social Science that has concentrations in economics, history and politics, and sociology/anthropology. It also has a BS in Game Design and Development program that provides concentrations in art and computer science.

Other programs include the BS in Professional Communication and Emerging Media that consists of 3 concentrations: technical communication, applied journalism, and digital humanities .

In addition, the college provides 15 minors including art, journalism, and speech communication.

Programs in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS)

CEHHS provides 16 undergraduate programs that prepare students for positions in education as well as careers that "improve the human condition."

Degree programs include a BS in Marketing and Business Education program, BS in Cognitive Science program, and BS in Psychology program. Other bachelor degree programs include art education, dietetics, food systems and technology, and science education.

Furthermore, the BS in Vocational Rehabilitation program trains students to recognize, deliver, or coordinate services that help people create full lives. The program has several concentrations including criminal justice, special education, and social work.

Programs in the College of Management

The College of Management at the University of Wisconsin-Stout offers innovative programs that prepare students for high-demand leadership positions in business and industry.

For example, one of its fastest growing programs is the BS in Golf Enterprise Management program. Other programs include the BS in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism; BS in Property Management; and BS in Supply Chain Management.

The college also offers several minors including business administration, project management, quality engineering, and retailing.

Programs in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CSTEM)

The CSTEM offers Bachelor of Science programs in several fields including applied mathematics and computer science, applied science, construction, and engineering technology.

It also has BS programs in graphic communications management, information and communication technologies, and information technology management.

Furthermore, it provides BS degrees in manufacturing engineering, packaging, and plastics. It also offers pre-professional studies in chiropractic medicine, dentistry, medicine, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and veterinarian medicine.

Online and Distance Programs at UW-Stout

UW-Stout offers several of its undergraduate degree programs online including the BS in Sustainable Management program, the BS in Management program, and the BS in Human Development and Family Studies program.

The university also collaborates with other colleges and universities to provide the following programs in remote locations: the BS in Early Childhood Education program, the BS in Engineering Technology program, and the BS in Manufacturing Engineering program.

Applied Learning at UW-Stout

Applied learning ensures that students graduate with the theoretical foundations, practical skills, and maturity needed to successfully compete in the marketplace.

The university provides laboratory projects, internships, co-ops, and field work, which ensures that students receive hands-on training in their fields of study.

In addition, it has 20 majors that are not provided at any other school in the University of Wisconsin system. Also, some of these programs, such as the BS in Packaging and BS in Golf Enterprise Management programs, are offered only in a few schools nationwide.

Experienced Faculty Members

UW-Stout employs experienced faculty members who are scholars and practitioners. They are also teachers, mentors, and friends who help their students gain the theoretical foundations and practical skills needed to enter the workforce ready to succeed.

A student to faculty member ratio of 19:1 ensures that students have easy access to and receive individualized attention from teachers. Furthermore, faculty members and academic staff teach more than 99% of the courses.

For example, Dr. Kathy Cochran in the Department of Business teaches a wide-variety of courses including visual merchandising, current retail strategies, and retail promotions. In another example, Julie Bates in the Department of Rehabilitation and Counseling has worked as a counselor and substance abuse clinician and has published several articles in scholarly journals.
