Overview

The University of Wyoming - Can one University make an impact?

Established in 1886 as a land-grant university, the University of Wyoming has since grown into a nationally recognized research institution which includes accomplished faculty and world-class facilities on a picturesque campus. UW provides a unique learning environment with more than 200 areas of study, 250 student organizations and one of the nation's most extensive study abroad programs inclusive of over 400 exchange sites. UW's 13,929 students hail from all 50 states and 94 countries.

Experience a personalized education for a fraction of the cost of other public universities. UW was recently recognized by "Forbes" magazine as the nation's 11th best college value. This comes as no surprise, as UW's student-to-faculty member ratio is 14 to 1 and an average class size of 29 students. UW's academic programs of distinction are focused in broad areas: science, engineering and technology, the arts and humanities, environment and natural resources, life sciences, and professional areas critical to the state and region.

The UW campus has experienced incredible growth over the past 7 years. Three quarters of a billion dollars have been invested in new facilities including a new business building, creative and preforming arts facilities, additions to the UW Library and recently the introduction of one of the world's largest super computers. The NCAR computer is a joint partnership between the University of Wyoming and the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Undergraduate students have access to all these facilities for instruction, internships, and research.

Students Enjoy a Great Campus & Location

The University of Wyoming is a residential campus located 7,200 feet above sea level and offers unparalleled research, classroom, and recreation opportunities. UW resides in Laramie, a safe and vibrant community of more than 30,000. Laramie offers fine dining and authentic Wyoming eateries, relaxed coffee houses and unique shopping, historic destinations and a variety of museums and cultural events. Within 15 minutes of town students can enjoy numerous outdoor activities: skiing, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, rafting, and mountain biking are all within easy access. Just 30 miles from the UW campus are over 2 million acres of national forest with peaks climbing over 12,000 feet and hundreds of miles of trails. Students can discover why UW was recently recognized by "Outside" magazine as the 15th best college campus in the country for outdoor adventure!
