Wilson College is a private, co-educational, liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1869 as one of the nation's first colleges for women, and today continues to foster rigorous intellectual pursuits. The college was among the first in the nation to offer on-campus, residential education for single mothers, and also offers a variety of evening and off-campus classes to make education for accessible for working adults.

Wilson College offers a wide variety of associate, bachelor's, post-baccalaureate, and graduate programs. Coursework is designed to prepare students for ethical leadership, humane stewardship, and fulfilling positions in communities around the world.

Undergraduate Programs at Wilson College

Wilson College academics are characterized by comprehensive coursework, strong role models among the faculty members, small classes, and a nurturing environment. Programs employ a thorough liberal arts curriculum that culminates in a supervised senior experiences, each consisting of a senior thesis, capstone project, internship, or senior seminar. Students and faculty members regularly work together in collaborative learning, teaching, and research.

Majors are available in the following 26 fields: accounting, biochemistry and molecular biology, business and economics, business sustainability and environmental management, chemistry, education, English, environmental studies, equestrian studies, equine facilitated therapies, equine journalism, exercise and sports science, financial mathematics, fine arts and dance, foreign language, history and political science, international studies, mass communications, mathematics and computer science, philosophy and religion, psychobiology, psychology, sociology, special major, sports management, and veterinary medical technology.

Minor Areas of Study for Wilson College Undergraduates

Wilson College offers 39 minor areas of study from which students may choose. Students are encouraged to pursue minors unrelated to their primary fields of study.

Minors include archaeology, art history, athletic coaching, biology, business, chemistry, computer science, dance, economics, English, entrepreneurship and small business management, environmental science, equestrian teaching, equestrian training, equine reproduction, ethics, film studies, French, German, historic preservation, history, international studies, Latin, music, management information systems, mass communications, mathematics, peace and conflict studies, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, sociology, Spanish, sports management, studio art, theater, and women's studies.

Associate Degrees and Pre-Professional Programs

Wilson College offers 6 programs leading to an associate degree. Programs are designed for traditional and non-traditional students seeking the technical skills of a bachelor's degree, without the liberal studies component. Associate degrees are offered in accounting, elementary education, liberal studies, management, management information systems, and mass communications.

In addition, Wilson offers 4 pre-professional programs for students preparing for entrance to graduate programs. Pre-professional degrees are available in pre-law, pre-med, pre-vet, and health sciences programs.

Student Research Day

Wilson College annually hosts a campus Student Research Day to highlight student and faculty member research, scholarship, and creative activity. The day is organized like a professional conference, providing unique opportunities for scholars to present their research or creative projects within a supportive academic community. Students planning to pursue their master's degrees are encouraged to participate.

Student Life at Wilson College

Students at Wilson College are encouraged to pursue a wide variety of extracurricular activities. Most students participate in at least one of the campus' intercollegiate sports, including field hockey, soccer, cross country, basketball, gymnastics, lacrosse, and softball. Wilson College also hosts 7 different equestrian teams, including the dressage team, drill team, quadrille, eventing team, intercollegiate riding team, and Western team. Over 37 student clubs and organizations are currently active, including the Diversity Team, Habitat for Humanity, and People's Republic of Art Club.

Wilson College is a Presbyterian-affiliated college supporting a diverse interfaith community. A full-time, on-site chaplain works with student groups, faculty members, and staff members to provide a variety of services to the campus community, including weekly worship services and pastoral care.

Financial Aid Opportunities at Wilson College

"US News and World Report" has recognized Wilson College as a "Best Value" destination for more than 10 years. The college is committed to helping students receive high quality liberal arts educations at an affordable rate. More than 90% of students receive some financial assistance each year in the form of grants, loans, scholarships, and on-campus work opportunities.

Scholarships are awarded in merit, competitive, academic, religious, affiliation, and specialty scholarship categories. Presbyterian scholarships available include those from Presbyterian Church USA, the National Network of Presbyterian College Women, and the Synod of the Trinity. Competitive scholarships include the Hagop Bogigian Scholarship for students of Armenian descent, Curran Scholarships for students with a proven history of service to the community, and the Class of 1952 Scholarship in Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Education for students pursuing their teacher licensures.

An Historic Campus with State-of-the-Art Facilities

Wilson College is located in Chambersburg, in South Central Pennsylvania, 17 miles from the Maryland border. The 300-acre campus is on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district. The Conococheague Creek separates the campus' residential, academic, and administrative facilities from the extensive Penn Hall Equestrian Center and Fulton Center for Sustainable Living.

The state-of-the-art equestrian center has 3 24-stall barns, 2 indoor areas, 1 outdoor arena, a cross-country jump course, and turn-out fields. The Fulton Center features a passive-solar greenhouse, campus composting and recycling project, and a 50-acre homestead, including 7 acres devoted to a community-supported certified naturally grown farm.
