Programs of Study
Argosy University, Phoenix, offers the Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in clinical psychology, forensic psychology, mental health counseling, school psychology, sport-exercise psychology, and industrial organizational psychology; the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in counseling psychology; and the Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in clinical psychology or school psychology. The M.A. in Clinical Psychology program is designed to educate and train students to enter professional careers as master’s-level practitioners. Students receive an educational program with all the necessary theoretical and clinical elements designed to allow them to be effective members of a mental health team. The program introduces students to basic clinical skills that integrate individual and group theoretical foundations of applied psychology into appropriate client interaction and intervention skills. Additionally, it offers comprehensive preparation for those considering application to the Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology program.
The M.A. in Forensic Psychology program is designed to educate and train individuals who are currently working, or wish to work, in fields that utilize the study and practice of forensic psychology. Curriculum is designed to provide for an understanding of theory, training, and practice of forensic psychology. It emphasizes the development of students who are committed to the ethical provision of quality services to diverse clients and organizations. The program maintains policies and delivery formats suitable for working adults. The program provides course work in forensic psychology for application to law enforcement, legal and organizational consultation, and program analysis.
The M.A. in Mental Health Counseling program is designed to provide students with a sound foundation for eventual practice of mental health counseling. The program introduces students to basic counseling skills that integrate individual and group theoretical foundations of professional counseling into appropriate client interaction and intervention skills. The M.A. in School Psychology program is dedicated to producing ethical, responsible, and competent school psychologists who can serve effectively in a number of professional roles. During graduate training, students develop core competencies in psychological assessment, intervention, and consultation/education, as well as cultural and individual diversity. Graduates of the program may be eligible for department of education certification and will be prepared for employment as school psychologists. The program is designed to prepare students to become Nationally Certified School Psychologists (NCSPs) in accordance with criteria developed by the National Association of School Psychologists.
The M.A. in Sport-Exercise Psychology program is designed to educate and train capable and ethical performance-enhancement specialists. This two-year degree is intended to meet the needs of students seeking employment in a variety of settings, including private practice, athletic departments, coaching, exercise/health, and education, as well as those planning to ultimately pursue their doctorate. The goals of the program include developing student competencies in the following areas: theoretical foundations, helping relationships, individual and group skills, normal and abnormal behavior, sport sciences, research and evaluation, diversity, and professional identity.
The M.A. in Industrial Organizational Psychology program is designed to apply the knowledge of industrial organizational psychology to issues involving individuals and groups in organizational and work settings. This program prepares students for careers in areas such as compensation, training, data analysis, consultation, statistical decision-making, organizational development, leadership, and human resource management positions. The curriculum is competency-based, focusing on the outcomes of training and on the knowledge, skills, and behavior necessary to function as a master’s-level professional in industrial organizational psychology. This is an interdisciplinary program that combines the expertise of the faculty in the College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences and the College of Business.
The Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology program emphasizes the development of attitudes, knowledge, and skills essential in the formation of professionals committed to the ethical provision of quality services. To ensure that students are prepared adequately, the curriculum provides for the meaningful integration of theory, training, and practice. Specific objectives of the program include training practitioners capable of delivering effective treatment to diverse populations of clients in need of such treatment; developing counseling psychologists who understand the biological, psychological, and sociological bases of human functioning; training practitioners who are capable of exercising leadership both in the health care delivery system and in the training of mental health professionals; preparing counseling psychologists capable of expanding their role within society; and educating practitioners capable of working with other disciplines as part of a professional team.

The program emphasizes the development of attitudes, knowledge, and skills essential to school psychologists who are committed to the ethical provision of quality services.
Research Facilities
Argosy University libraries provide curriculum support and educational resources, including current text materials, diagnostic training documents, reference materials and databases, journals and dissertations, and major and current titles in program areas. There is an online public-access catalog of library resources available throughout the Argosy University system.
