Graduate Programs in Biology Offer M.S., M.A.T., Specialist, and Ph.D. Degrees

The graduate program at BGSU prepares students for professional careers in both applied and fundamental areas of biology. The courses offer various areas of specialization, which include subjects as diverse as a certificate in bioinformatics. Biology study offer Master of Science (M.S.), Master in Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.), and PhD degrees. Three major areas of specialization include: ecology and conservation biology; biochemistry and molecular biology; and neuroscience and behavior.

To obtain a well balanced education, students are encouraged to partake in interdisciplinary research and take advantage of the flexible program of study. The main campus has more than two hundred majors and programs of study. To facilitate research for the students, the BGSU library facility has electronic access to worldwide information study sources. There are more than 6 million items listed in its catalogue. Students also have access to high-speed internet computer connections in the University's laboratories, libraries, and classrooms, as well as in the residences.

Bowling Green State University is primarily a residential campus in the city of Bowling Green. Since its inception in 1910 as a teacher-training campus, BGSU has expanded to have many areas of specialization. Leading faculty offer studies in the fields of biology, social sciences, computer sciences, chemistry, physics, and neurosciences to name a few. The biology faculty programs culminate in students earning nationally recognized certificates and degrees and being equipped to enter industries in their chosen field or continue on to even higher education and research.

BGSU Offers an Enriching and High-Quality Student Lifestyle

There are many recreation opportunities at Bowling Green State University that compliment the academic programs. Sports teams are known as the Bowling Green Falcons and there is a strong campus loyalty and support of football, ice hockey, and other campus sports. An eighteen-hole golf course on campus supports the strong men's and women's golfing teams. Other sports include: baseball, basketball, cross-country, and soccer for men. Women's sporting activities include: softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, cross-country, track, and basketball.

Located near the Great Lakes in the Midwest, there are ample opportunities for outdoor explorations and activities. An attraction of studying at BGSU is that students in the biology faculty can combine their outdoor research tasks with nature walks and camping trips.

There are sixty-two different student organizations spanning a wide range of interests. In addition there are twenty-five cultural student organizations and sixteen community service student organizations. The cultural and sporting activities available at Bowling Green all serve to provide the students with a well-balanced and enriching study experience.

Study Sponsorships, Grants, Financial Aid, and Tuition Waivers Available at Bowling Green State University

The University provides financial assistance in some form to more than 70 percent of its students. Full and part scholarships are provided to students who display academic excellence, service dedication, and talent. These scholarships generally do not need to be repaid, but the university does expect recipients to deliver quality grades and study results. Government grants are also available for a number of the study programs for students who come from less privileged backgrounds. Student Loans require repayment and are available from a number of private and state sources. BGSU also has a student employment program whereby it assists students in covering the costs of their study fees by providing job opportunities on campus. This program not only provides a form of financial aid, but also promotes a sound work ethic that underlines the core values of the university.
