Detailed Information

Programs of Study

The College of Business Administration (COBA) offers four graduate study programs: the Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.), the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), the Master of Science (M.S.) in computer information systems, and the Master of Health Administration (M.H.A.). Both day and evening classes are available to accommodate a variety of schedules.

The M.Acc. degree fulfills the education needs of professional accountants, enhancing both their business and specialized accounting knowledge. The program meets the 150-hour education requirement for membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the statutory education requirements for certification as a public accountant.

Along with integrating a variety of courses offered by the five departments in COBA, the M.B.A. program gives students the opportunity to tailor their degree to meet their career needs. Students take 21 hours of required courses and may choose an area of concentration.

Developed exclusively for IT professionals with three or more years of IT work experience, the M.S. program enables students to earn an accredited degree in just twenty-three months–without interrupting their careers. The program gained national recognition for being one of the first accredited graduate programs designed exclusively for IT professionals that combined classroom and distance learning.

The 48-credit M.H.A. degree program is designed for students who wish to further their careers in the administration of health organizations, including integrated systems, hospitals, group practices, long-term-care facilities, clinics, and managed-care and other types of health organizations. Degree requirements and specific program information can be found in the graduate catalog, which is available online at http://graduate.missouristate.edu/.

Research Facilities

The Center for Business and Economic Development is home to both the Small Business Development Center and the Management Development Institute. The Small Business Development Center, a nonprofit entity, provides consultation and seminar training for potential and existing small businesses in nineteen southwest Missouri counties. The Management Development Institute offers a wide range of seminars in order to assist managers and supervisors with developing tools, techniques, and strategies that motivate people, solve problems, and keep worker performance and work quality at high levels.

Missouri State University libraries have comprehensive electronic resources, including an online catalog, electronic indexes and full-text resources, and Internet accessibility. The University is a member of the Center for Research Libraries and is both a U.S. and United Nations document depository.

Financial Aid

A limited number of graduate assistantships are available and are awarded on a competitive basis. An assistantship provides a minimum stipend of $7050 for the nine-month academic year and the eligibility to receive a fee waiver scholarship for up to 15 credit hours of course work for both the fall and spring semesters. In addition, students who have served as assistants for both the fall and spring semesters are eligible to receive a scholarship for up to 6 hours of graduate course work for the following summer semester. Graduate students are also eligible for federal financial assistance through the Federal Perkins Loan, the Federal Subsidized Stafford Student Loan, and the Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Student Loan.

Cost of Study

In 2008–09, graduate-level course fees were $214 per credit hour for in-state residents and $418 per credit hour for nonresidents. An additional student services fee ($338 for full-time students) was assessed per semester, based on enrolled credit hours.

Living and Housing Costs

The average cost per year for room and board in residence halls was $5668 in 2008–09. Exact rates depend on room style and meal plan. Furnished apartments were available for graduate, married, and nontraditional students for $461 to $613 per month. University and privately owned apartments are within a reasonable distance of the campus.
