The Oklahoma State University is a public, coeducational school system of higher education comprising four campuses in Stillwater, Okmulgee, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, along with two health facilities in Tulsa. The central 1,500-acre campus is located in the rural town of Stillwater. Oklahoma State University was initially founded as an agricultural and mechanical college in 1891. After much physical, departmental and curriculum expansion in the 1950s, OSU became officially chartered as a formal university.
There are over 35 individual school buildings, research centers, study halls and other facility buildings on campus, as well as almost 20 residential buildings and almost a dozen other structures, such as the Allie P. Reynolds Stadium and the Oklahoma Botanical Garden and Arboretum. Of the 23,000 total students enrolled at OSU, the graduate student body comprises a few thousand. There are close to 200 different graduate degree programs that are currently offered at OSU.

The Oklahoma State University offers several graduate degree programs that students regularly pursue. The Math Department at OSU is considered one of the best in the nation, comparable to those of such luminary and well-known schools as MIT, as judged by the American Mathematics Association. The graduate Math Department offers all of its students the complete support of an award-winning faculty, as well as the high-end research facilities required in professional research work.
There are several areas of study that graduate students may focus on, including number theory, lie groups, topology, applied mathematics, geometry, algebra, and education. The low student-to-teacher ratio helps to create an immediate and intimate environment for students to learn in. There are over 35 full- and part-time professors and assistant professors that lead and support the OSU Math Department.
There are several noted faculty members in the Math Department at OSU. These include published author, number theory specialist, and professor David J. Wright, Ph.D.; published author, Oklahoma State University Regents' Distinguished Teaching Award-winner, and professor, Linda Mantini, Ph.D.; and published author, Representation Theory and Quantum Field Theory specialist, and professor, Birne Binegar, Ph.D.

The Oklahoma State University System has some of the most competitive degree programs in the nation coupled with some of the lowest tuition costs for graduate students. In-district and in-state tuition is close to $3,500 with additional required fees totaling $1,500.
Graduate students may be able to secure financial assistance by teaching assistant positions as well as by performing research. Stipends for such activity can range from $12,000 to $14,000 annually. Of course, there are many different grant and scholarship opportunities available to outstanding students who demonstrate superior academic achievement.
OSU has accumulated numerous designations and awards, including Princeton Review's indication of the school's "best value" status, and the National Security Agency's designation of Oklahoma State University as a National Center for Academic Excellence.
From Nature Destinations to Live Theater, There Is Much for Graduate Students to Do, both on Campus and in Nearby Tulsa
For graduate and doctorate students, and their friends and family who may visit the local area, there is much to do and see on campus and in the town of Stillwater, as well as in major cities close by, like Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
Students have hundreds of groups and organizations to be a part of, ranging from formal Greek fraternities and sororities to the Food Science Club and the Indian Student Association, as well as many others. The Allied Arts and Special Events calendar is packed with great cultural happenings all school year long. Regular events include: performances of the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, revivals of such classic plays as "To Kill A Mockingbird," visiting performances from such world-famous groups as the New York City Ballet, and tributes to '50s rock n' rollers like Buddy Holly.
In the town of Stillwater, visitors can enjoy one of several premier golf courses, such as the Karsten Creek Golf Club or lakeside Gold Club. Those who wish to take it easy and pamper themselves can spend the afternoon at the four-star Ladan Hair Design and Day Spa. Only a few miles up the road from town center is Lake Carl Blackwell, which is ideal for swimming, boating, and spending the day along the breezy shorelines.
Just a few miles away in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a more urban environment is available. What once was a private mansion has been converted into the Philbrook Museum of Art, which since the 1950s has shown regular traveling exhibitions of art from Asia, Europe, and Africa. The Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum on 36th Street includes a landscape of nearly 80 acres with over a thousand animals such as chimps, tigers, bears, and even more exotic species on view. For a great dining experience, many have eaten at Abuello's Mexican Food Embassy on 71st Street or have grabbed a quick bite at Allen's Coney Island, which offers classic New York fast food specialties.
