Overview
Biomedical Certificate Program at the University of Utah
The graduate certificate program at the University of Utah's Department of Biomedical Informatics puts students on a fast track to promising careers in biomedical informatics. The biomedical certificate program allows students to gain a broad background in core informatics issues, as well as more specialized knowledge in sub-domains such as bioinformatics, public health informatics, clinical information systems, and medical imaging. Individual programs of study allow for further specialization and development of knowledge in related fields, making the University of Utah one of the top, specialized biomedical informatics schools in the country.
Only fifteen hours of course credits are needed for completion of the biomedical certificate program. The core curriculum of the certificate program requires only two semesters of the graduate seminar course and one other core biomedical informatics course. The remainder of the 15 credit hours are taken as electives, as is the case in other biomedical informatics schools. Students may select courses to meet their learning objectives, such as medical imaging. Certificate students learn side by side with master's and Ph.D. students and work on many of the same cutting-edge topics and projects. Core courses of the biomedical certificate program are offered through distance learning technologies, so students can earn their certificates while participating from their location. Experts in their field teach courses at the University of Utah's Department of Biomedical Informatics. The research and health care environment at the University of Utah and its partners offers a unique setting to education in the rapidly expanding field of biomedical informatics.
