Programs of Study
Argosy University, Atlanta, offers the Postdoctoral Respecialization Certificate in clinical psychology, the Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in clinical psychology, community counseling, forensic psychology, and industrial organizational psychology; the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in counselor education and supervision; and the Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in clinical psychology. Students completing a program may wish to become licensed professionals. Argosy University, Atlanta does not guarantee third-party certification/licensure. The Postdoctoral Respecialization Certificate in Clinical Psychology is designed for qualified individuals with doctoral degrees in areas of psychology other than clinical psychology. It provides the opportunity to obtain clinical knowledge and skills through class work and through fieldwork experiences. Coursework and clinical training experiences are designed to enable program participants to seek licensure in clinical psychology.
The M.A. in Clinical Psychology program presents students with the opportunity for training as professionals in the mental health field. This program serves several purposes. First, it introduces students to basic clinical skills that can enable them to serve the mental health needs of populations with diverse backgrounds. Students who use the master’s degree as a means of entering a professional career have the opportunity to receive theoretical background and professional training under the supervision of a qualified, practitioner-oriented faculty. The graduates of this program are then able to apply theoretical and clinical knowledge to individuals and groups in need of mental healthcare. Second, the Master of Arts degree often serves as a preliminary step to the doctorate degree. For these students, the program provides a foundation for work beyond the master’s degree level and enables them to determine their interest in, and suitability for, the pursuit of more advanced study. In certain states, students holding an M.A. in clinical psychology are eligible to sit for licensure.
The M.A. in Community Counseling program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation for the practice of professional counseling. The program’s curriculum integrates theoretical and conceptual foundations of professional counseling with training in appropriate client intervention and advocacy skills. The program emphasizes the development of attitudes, knowledge, and skills that are essential for professional counselors who are committed to the ethical provision of quality services. Students completing this program meet the academic requirements toward licensure as Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) in Georgia.
The M.A. in Forensic Psychology program is designed to educate and train individuals who are currently working, or wish to work, in fields that utilize the study and practice of forensic psychology. Curriculum provides for an understanding of theory, training, and practice of forensic psychology. It emphasizes the development of students who are committed to the ethical provision of quality services to diverse clients and organizations. The program maintains policies and delivery formats suitable for working adults. The M.A. in Forensic Psychology program provides coursework in forensic psychology for application to law enforcement, legal and organizational consultation, and program analysis.
The M.A. in Industrial Organizational Psychology program is designed to apply the knowledge of industrial organizational psychology to issues involving individuals and groups in organizational and work settings. This program prepares students for careers in areas such as compensation, training, data analysis, consultation, statistical decision-making, organizational development, leadership, and human resource management positions. The curriculum is competency-based, focusing on the outcomes of training and on the knowledge, skills, and behavior necessary to function as a master’s-level professional in industrial organizational psychology. This is an interdisciplinary program that combines the expertise of the faculty in the College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences and the College of Business.
The Ed.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision program aligns with the master’s-level counselor education programs in order to encourage entry-level counseling students to work toward becoming doctoral-level advanced practitioners, educators, and supervisors. This program prepares counselors for a variety of settings by providing the advanced skills and knowledge necessary to provide leadership and advocacy, as well as serve in supervisory, training, and teaching positions in the counseling profession.
The Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology program has been designed to educate and train students so that they may eventually be able to function effectively as clinical psychologists. The curriculum provides for the meaningful integration of theory, training, and practice. The program emphasizes the development of attitudes, knowledge, and skills essential in the formation of professional psychologists who are committee do the ethical provision of quality services.
Research Facilities
Argosy University libraries provide curriculum support and educational resources, including current text materials, diagnostic training documents, reference materials and databases, journals and dissertations, and major and current titles in program areas. There is an online public-access catalog of library resources available throughout the Argosy University system. Students have remote access to the campus library database, enabling them to study and conduct research at home. Academic databases offer dissertation abstracts, academic journals, and professional periodicals. All library computers are Internet accessible.
