Programs of Study
Argosy University, Schaumburg, offers the Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in clinical psychology, community counseling, and industrial organizational psychology; the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in counseling psychology, counselor education and supervision, and organizational leadership; and the Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in clinical psychology. The M.A. in Clinical Psychology program is designed to educate and train students to enter a professional career as master’s-level practitioners. Students receive an educational program with all the necessary theoretical and clinical elements designed to allow them to be effective members of a mental health team. The program introduces students to basic clinical skills that integrate individual and group theoretical foundations of applied psychology into appropriate client interaction and intervention skills. In addition, the program offers comprehensive preparation for those considering application to the Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology program.
The M.A. in Community Counseling program is designed to provide students with a sound foundation for eventual practice of professional counseling. The program introduces students to basic counseling skills that integrate individual and group theoretical foundations of professional counseling into appropriate client interaction and intervention skills. The program emphasizes the development of attitudes, knowledge, and skills essential in the formation of professional counselors who are committed to the ethical provision of quality services. The program is committed to educating and training students to enter a professional career as master’s-level counseling practitioners who can function ethically and effectively as skilled professionals with demonstrated knowledge of social and cultural diversity. Students are prepared for licensure as professional counselors in the state of Illinois; however, alumni serve clients throughout North America.
The M.A. in Industrial Organizational Psychology program is designed to apply the knowledge of industrial organizational psychology to issues involving individuals and groups in organizational and work settings. This program prepares students for careers in areas such as compensation, training, data analysis, consultation, statistical decision-making, organizational development, leadership, and human resource management positions. The curriculum is competency-based, focusing on the outcomes of training and on the knowledge, skills, and behavior necessary to function as a master’s-level professional in industrial organizational psychology. This is an interdisciplinary program that combines the expertise of the faculty in the College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences and the College of Business.
The Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology program is designed to meet the special requirements of working professionals who want to develop their knowledge and skills to handle the changing needs of modern organizations. The program is structured to provide working professionals with the opportunity to pursue their personal and professional goals through the completion of a graduate program.
The Ed.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision program aligns with the master’s-level counselor education programs in order to encourage entry-level counseling students to work toward becoming doctoral-level advanced practitioners, educators, and supervisors. The program prepares counselors for a variety of settings by providing the advanced skills and knowledge necessary to provide leadership and advocacy, as well as serve in supervisory, training, and teaching positions in the counseling profession.
The Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership program is designed to meet the special requirements of working professionals who want to develop their knowledge and skills to handle the changing needs of modern organizations. The program is designed to enable working professionals to pursue their personal and professional goals through the completion of a graduate program. It focuses on the qualities of transformational leadership, not just managerial attributes. This approach enables the faculty members to dedicate themselves to preparing students to lead complex organizations faced with an abundance of strategic challenges, such as increasing globalization, changing economies, societal shifts, and individual-organizational relationships. Research Facilities
Argosy University libraries provide curriculum support and educational resources, including current text materials, diagnostic training documents, reference materials and databases, journals and dissertations, and major and current titles in program areas. There is an online public-access catalog of library resources available throughout the Argosy University system. Students have remote access to the campus library database, enabling them to study and conduct research at home.
