To complete the program, students must successfully complete exams in social work methodologies as well as a substantive field. They must also demonstrate expertise in the comprehension of a behavioral and social science that is relevant to their area of study. Generally speaking, a Ph.D. in social work at Columbia University requires between 45 and 48 credits.
